    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a termite expellent with low toxicity, containing a quaternary ammonium salt of a carboxymethyl cellulose derivative as an active ingredient and capable of sustaining effects thereof for a long period without a fear of environmental pollution. CONSTITUTION:A termite expellent containing a quaternary ammonium salt of a carboxymethyl cellulose derivative, particularly preferably hydroxyalkyl carboxymethyl cellulose, alkyl carboxymethyl cellulose as an active ingredient. The expellent is used by dissolving the active ingredient in an organic solvent such as a lower alcohol, e.g. methanol, ethanol, etc. Since the termite expellent is fixed in the form of a film on the surface or surface layer of wood and is insoluble in water, effects are sustained for a long period even in a place with a high humidity without running off by water. There is no fear of pollution by runoff. Since the above-mentioned active ingredient is insoluble in water and hydrophilic, it has affinity for wood, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a termite expellent sustaining effects for a long period, having no fear of environmental pollution by washing away, comprising quaternary ammonium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A termite expellent comprising quaternary ammonium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose which, for example, can be readily synthesized from sodium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose and a quaternary ammonium halide as an active ingredient. The quaternary ammonium salt of CMC is fixed to the surface or the surface layer of wood as a film. Since the film is water- insoluble, it will not flow and since the quaternary ammonium salt has alginic acid as skeleton, it has hydrophilic nature and affinity for wood, penetrated, adsorbed and retained. The amount of the active ingredient used is 0.1-25wt.%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To carry out the selective decetylation of acetyl derivative of a monosaccharide or oligosaccharide at a specific position in the molecule, by treating the derivative with a mixture of an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide, an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide and an organic solvent.
    CONSTITUTION: Acetyl derivative of a monosaccharide or oligosaccharide (e.g. methyl-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-α-D-glucopyranoside of formula) is dissolved e.g. in THF. A mixture of an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide, aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide and an organic solvent [preferably a mixture of lithium hydroxide equivalent to the acetyl group to be hydrolyzed, 5W20mol equivalent (based on the lithium hydroxide) of 10W50% solution of hydrogen peroxide, and THF] is added dropwise to the above solution, made to react with each other at 0W50°C, added with sodium thiosulfate, and separated and purified to obtain the objective compound. For example, the compounds of formula I and IIis hydrolyzed selectively at the 2C position and the compound of formula IIIis hydrolyzed at the 6C position.

CONSTITUTION:The objective compound e.g. acetic anhydride useful industrially as an acetylation agent of the raw material for the production of acetyl cellulose, etc., is produced by the carbonylation of an O-methylated compound capable of forming methyl iodide in the reaction system, especially methyl acetate, or a mixture of said compound and methanol, with carbon monoxide in a liquid phase in the presence of rhodium catalyst and an iodine compound. In the above process, the rate of reaction of the O-methylated compound with carbon monoxide is improved using a cocatalyst consisting of a combination of (a) a zero- valent carbonyl complex compound of a metal of the VIB-group of the periodic table (Cr, Mo or W) and (b) a Lewis acid containing metallic atom.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce fine globular cellulose particles which can satisfy both separation performance and flow velocity properties by a allowing a specific crosslinking agent to be present when fine globular cellulose triacetate particles are subjected to alkali hydrolysis. CONSTITUTION:When fine globular cellulose triacetate particles (those having a particle size of 10-500mu is preferred, especially preference being given to those having a uniform network structure) are hydrolyzed with an alkali into fine globular cellulose particles, a compound having 2 or more functional groups in the molecule which can produce ether linkages by the reaction with the hydroxyl groups (e.g., epichlorohydrin) is added as a crosslinking agent into the reaction system. According to the process, formation of hydrogen bonds can be inhibited, shrinkage of the cellulose which is forming can be suppressed, and therefore cellulose particles which can satisfy both separation performance and flow velocity properties can be obtained. Further, by controlling the concentration of the alkali in the system, crosslinking can be effected under various swelling conditions to control the properties of cellulose particles that will be produced.
