    Abstract: Isomer mixtures of 1,3- and 1,4-bis-(2-hydroxyhexafluoroprop-2-yl)-benzene are separated by a steam distillation in the presence of CS2. On cooling of the steam distillate, a solid precipitates which is composed mainly of the 1,4-isomer. After the solid has been separated off, an aqueous-organic liquid-phase mixture remains, the organic phase of which mainly contains the 1,3-isomer. The pure isomers are obtained by recrystallization or distillation respectively. These are mainly intermediates in the polymer field.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of compounds of the formula I and salts or acid addition compounds thereof (I) in which R denotes hydrogen, (halogenated) alkyl with the exception of CF3, a (substituted) aromatic radical, (substituted) heteroaryl, (substituted) phenoxy, (substituted) phenylthio, (substituted) phenylamino, halogen, hydroxyl, alkoxy, mercapto, (halogenated) cycloalkyl, alkylmercapto, amino, monoalkylamino or dialkylamino, R1 denotes (substituted alkyl, (substituted) phenyl or naphthyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, cycloalkyl, (substituted) benzyl or heteroaryl, and X denotes oxygen or sulfur, which comprises reacting a nitrile of the formula II with a compound of the formula III R-C 3BOND N (II) R1-XH (III) in the presence of anhydrous hydrofluoric acid, a perfluoroalkanecarboxylic acid, a perfluoralkanesulfonic acid or a perfluorinated ion exchanger containing sulfonic acids, and converting the resulting salts of the formula I, if appropriate by the addition of bases, into the free imidates of the formula I and, if approximate, converting the latter subsequently into further salts or acid addition compounds. The invention also relates to the new compounds of the formula I in which R1 denotes a (substituted) phenyl radical and R and X have the meanings mentioned. The compounds of the formula I are valuable intermediate products in the preparation of plant protection agents and pharmaceuticals.

    Abstract: A process is specified for preparing a chromium- and magnesium-containing catalyst for fluorination reactions by precipitating chromium(III) hydroxide. In this process, 1 mole of a water-soluble chromium(III) salt is reacted with at least 1.5 moles of magnesium hydroxide or magnesium oxide in the presence of water, and the reaction mixture-if necessary by evaporation-is converted into a paste which contains chromium(III) hydroxide and a magnesium salt. The paste is dried and treated with hydrogen fluoride at temperatures of 20 DEG to 500 DEG C.

    Abstract: Hexafluoroacetone is prepared by a rearrangement of hexafluoropropene epoxide at an elevated temperature in the presence of hydrogen fluoride as a catalyst and, if appropriate, also as a solvent. In many cases the solution of hexafluoroacetone in hydrogen fluoride obtained in this process can be directly employed without further working-up or purification in further reactions of hexafluoroacetone, for example with phenol and/or o-cresol.

    Abstract: chlorofluoromethyl ether (I) of the formula: CF3-CHF-3-CHF-Cl is a new cpd. which may be prepd. by (a) subjecting an ether of the formula: CF3-nClnCHF1-mClm-O-CH3 (II) (where n is 0, 1, 2 or 3 and m is 0 or 1) to partial photochlorination to give an ether of the formula: CF3-nCln-CHF1-mClm-O-CH2Cl (III), fluorinating (III) to give the other of the formula: CH3-CHF-O-CH2F (IV), again chlorinating (IV), and isolating (I) from the chlorination mixt. by conventional procedures, or (b) converting (II; n = m = 0) by partial photochlorination into the ether of the formula: CF3-CHF-O-CHCl2 (VI), partially fluorinating (VI), and isolating (I) from the fluorination mixt. in a conventional manner. (I) is of use as an inhalation anaesthetic. Due to its relatively low b. pt. (51.5 degrees C/-760 mm.) it can be readily and controllably admixed with respiration mixts. contg. sufficient oxygen to maintain life.
