Abstract: A portable radiotelephone with control switch disabling is disclosed. A flip element (104) which contains a microphone and covers a keypad (110) and other control buttons when in a closed position also activates a hookswitch (306). When the hookswitch and microprocessor indicate that the flip element is in a closed position, the on/off switch cannot be activated to turn the portable radiotelephone on or off and switches which control volume level are deactivated.

Abstract: A portable radiotelephone with an integral voice recognition circuit is disclosed. Control of the voice recognition circuit is achieved with a foldable housing element which, in a closed position, covers an external keypad and control buttons. When the foldable housing element is in an open position, the portable radiotelephone is placed in an off-hook condition, the voice recognition circuit is activated, and the acoustic transducers are coupled to the voice recognition circuit. When the foldable element is in a closed position, the portable radiotelephone is placed in an on-hook condition, the voice recognition circuit is deactivated, and the electroacoustic transducers are coupled to the radiotelephone. A rapid closing and opening of the foldable element results in the voice recognition circuit being deactivated while the portable radiotelephone remains in the off-hook condition.

Abstract: The power control apparatus of the present invention is comprised of a local oscillator signal path coupled to a mixer (106) through a variable attenuator (107) and an IF signal path coupled to the mixer (106) through two variable attenuators (108 and 109) coupled in series. The IF signal path attenuators (108 and 109) are controlled by digital control circuitry (111) while the local oscillator path attenuator (107) is controlled by the control circuitry through a level shifter (110). The power level of the signal generated by the mixing of these two signals is less than the conducted output of the radiotelephone's power amplifier.
