Abstract: Techniques to support operation in a compressed mode and a continuous packet connectivity (CPC) mode are described. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) may- obtain an assignment of enabled subframes for the CPC mode and an assignment of transmission gaps for the compressed mode. The transmission gaps may be aligned with idle times between the enabled subframes. The UE may exchange data during enabled subframes not overlapping the transmission gaps and may skip data exchanges during enabled subframes overlapping the transmission gaps. The UE may make cell measurements during the transmission gaps. In another aspect, the UE may obtain enabled subframes and skipped subframes, exchange data during enabled subframes not corresponding to the skipped subframes, and skip data exchanges during the skipped subframes. In yet another aspect, the UE may receive orders on a shared control channel to quickly enable and disable the compressed mode.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate notifying and detecting system information block (SIB) modification in subsequent modification periods. Access points can advertise information in a current SIB indicating a subsequent modification period in which the SIB will be modified. Devices can receive the SIB and process the information to determine whether the SIB will be modified and in which modification period. This mitigates undesirable affects of utilizing paging to indicate SIB modification since devices read the SIB upon entering a cell, switching from active to idle mode, etc.

Abstract: Transmission techniques are provided that improve service continuity and reduce interruptions in delivery of content that can be caused by transitions that occur when the User Equipment (UE) moves from one cell to the other, or when the delivery of content changes from a Point-to-Point (PTP) connection to a Point-to-Multipoint (PTM) connection in the same serving cell, and vice-versa. Such transmission techniques enable seamless delivery of content across cell borders and/or between different transmission schemes such as Point-to-Multipoint (PTM) and Point-to-Point (PTP). Mechanisms for adjusting different streams and for recovering content from each data block during such transitions are also provided so that data is not lost during a transition. In addition, mechanisms for realigning data during decoding at a receiving terminal are also provided.

Abstract: A mobile wireless telecommunications system includes base stations (30) of a first type operating according to a first air interface, and base stations (36) of a second type operating according to a second air interface. Methods and apparatus are provided for handing over a mobile station (40) in the system from a first base station (30), which is of the first type, to a second base station (36), which is of the second type. A communications link is established over the first air interface between the mobile station (40) and the first base station (30). Data is received from the mobile station (40) responsive to a signal received by the mobile station (40) over the second air interface from the second base station (36), substantially without breaking the communications link with the first base station. The mobile station (40) is handed over from the first (30) to the second base station (36) responsive to the data received therefrom.

Abstract: A base station (110) in a wireless communications network (100) counts mobile stations (114) receiving broadcast content via multi-user channel. The base station broadcasts (608) a repeating message identifying at least one broadcast content stream and, for each stream, a REGISTER (R) or DO NOT REGISTER (DNR) indicator. Mobile stations periodically re-examine (722) contents of this message. When the indicator is R for a broadcast content stream, mobile stations whose users have elected to receive it send (714) the base station a registration message for that stream. When the number of registered mobile stations reaches (612) a prescribed number, the base station changes (614) the indicator to DNR. Abstract: Techniques for performing handover in order to maintain call continuity for a user equipment (UE) are described. The UE may communicate with a first cell in a radio access network (RAN) for a packet-switched (PS) call, e.g., for Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) via High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) in W-CDMA. The UE may send measurement reports to the RAN and may receive trigger from the RAN. The UE may establish a circuit-switched (CS) call with the first cell while the PS call is pending at the first cell. The PS call and the CS call may be for a voice call, and the UE may switch data path for the voice call from the PS call to the CS call and then terminate the PS call. The UE may then perform handover of the CS call from the first cell to a second cell, which may not support VoIP.
