Abstract: SCHEDULING BASED ON EFFECTIVE TARGET LOAD WITH INTERFERENCE CANCELLATION IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMTechniques for scheduling users for transmission on the uplink in a wireless communication system are described. A cell may perform interference cancellation for uplink transmissions and may observe lower effective noise and interference due to interference cancellation. The lower effective noise and interference may allow the cell to operate with a higher effective target load, which may support a higher overall throughput for the cell. In one design, an effective target load for a cell using interference cancellation may be determined, e.g., based on a target rise-over-thermal (RoT) for the cell and an interference cancellation efficiency factor. An available load for the cell may be determined based on the effective target load, which may be higher than a target load for the cell without interference cancellation. Users in the cell may then be scheduled for transmission on the uplink based on the available load.Figure 4

In an illustrative operation, an exemplary base station can engage one or more selected pilot channel control operations as part of pilot channel optimization comprising a jump detection technique, operating power control on another channel other than the DPCCH, engaging in delayed power control, engaging in a soft-handoff power control in the instance of a boosted pilot channel, and resolving ambiguity in grant messages resulting from a pilot boost.

Abstract: A method of performing soft handoff in a wireless communication environment is disclosed. The method includes: evaluating, by a network controller, a virtual active set (VAS) of a user device, where the VAS includes a list of sectors, other than a nominal sector serving the user device, capable of receiving and demodulating user device transmissions; providing the sectors listed in the VAS with channel and resource assignment information assigned to the user device by the nominal sector, and a scrambling code employed by the user device in the nominal sector, where the provided channel and resource assignment information and scrambling code allow the sectors listed in the VAS to receive and demodulate signals from the user device; and initiating transmission of at least one of a power control command or a reverse activity command, determined from the received and demodulated signals, to the user device using the scrambling code. A processor in a base station configured to execute instructions for uplink soft handoff in a wireless communication environment is also disclosed. The instructions include: analyzing a virtual active set (VAS) for a user device, where the VAS includes a list of sectors, other than a nominal sector serving the user device, capable of receiving and demodulating user device transmissions; verifying that the base station is listed in the VAS for the user device; receiving channel and resource assignment information assigned to the user device by the nominal sector, and a scrambling code employed by the user device in the nominal sector; using the received channel and resource assignment information and scrambling code to receive and demodulate signals from the user device; and transmitting power control and reverse activity commands to the user device.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate efficient power control command management in a wireless communication environment. As described herein, techniques can be utilized by a Node B and/or other network access point to compensate for differences between uplink slot boundaries and a power control command combining period associated with the uplink slot. For example, the timing of Transmitter Power Control (TPC) bit transmission can be altered as described herein such that, if a given cell or cell sector is associated with a radio link set of size 2 or greater and a TPC timing offset of size 2 or less, TPC command information can be buffered and/or otherwise delayed to a slot following the slot in which corresponding channel measurements are obtained in order to prevent efficiency loss associated with combining TPC bits of inverse polarity corresponding to multiple disparate slots.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for facilitating managing cells in a multi-carrier system from an access terminal and base station are provided. The base station and access terminal communicate via an anchor carrier and a supplementary carrier. A triggering algorithm generated by the base station is transmitted to the access terminal. The triggering algorithm includes instructions for the access terminal to report downlink measurements as a function of trigger events detected over the anchor carrier and/or the supplementary carrier. Downlink measurements taken by the access terminal are provided to the base station. Cell management instructions based in part on the downlink measurements are then provided to the access terminal by the base station.
