Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for truncated identification indicators. A user equipment (UE) may receive control signaling indicating a truncating configuration for an identification indicator. The truncating configuration may indicate a set of bits within an initial identification indicator to remove to generate a truncated identification indicator. The UE may remove the indicated set of bits and transmit the truncated identification indicator to a base station. The base station may receive the truncated identification indicator and reconstruct the initial identification indicator according to the truncating configuration. The base station may reconstruct the initial identification indicator by adding the set of bits (e.g., removed by the UE to generate the truncated identification indicator) to the truncated identification indicator.

Abstract: Techniques described herein are directed toward enabling location support for 5G New Radio (NR) wireless access by a user equipment (UE) by utilizing existing LTE location support. More specifically, LTE positioning protocol (LPP) messages may be communicated between a UE with NR wireless access and a location server (e.g. an LMF) in a 5G Core Network via an NG-RAN. The LPP messages may support RAT-independent and E-UTRA position methods by the UE such as A-GNSS or OTDOA for E-UTRA. The location server may obtain OTDOA related information from eNBs and ng-eNBs supporting LTE wireless access. A UE may request measurement gaps from a 5G base station (e.g. gNB) in order to obtain measurements for RAT-independent and E-UTRA position methods and may request an idle period in order to obtain LTE timing needed for E-UTRA measurements.

The core network entity (410) determines an authorization for data traffic to be offloaded to the secondary cell (408) based on data traffic characteristics. The core network (410) transmits an indication of the authorization to the RAN (404).

Abstract: The disclosure provides a mechanism where a user equipment (UE) may communicate with a neighbor UE of the UE's neighbor UE by utilizing the UE's neighbor UE as a relay for the communication between the UE and the neighbor UE of the UE's neighbor UE. In an aspect, the first UE receives a discovery message from a second UE, the discovery message including information about 1-hop neighbor UEs of the second UE. The first UE determines to communicate with a third UE based on the discovery message, the third UE being one of the 1-hop neighbor UEs of the second UE. The first UE requests the second UE to operate as a relay for communication between the first UE and the third UE. The first UE communicates with the third UE through the second UE.

A method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) includes configuring a relay selection rule; receiving at least one discovery message from each of a plurality of proximity services (ProSe) relay candidates providing access to a network; evaluating the received discovery messages with respect to the relay selection rule; selecting a first ProSe relay candidate from the plurality of ProSe relay candidates based at least in part on the evaluating; and connecting to the network via the first ProSe relay candidate. A method for wireless communication at a ProSe relay candidate includes receiving, from a network, a ProSe Relay Indication (PRI); broadcasting at least one discovery message that includes the PRI; and receiving a relay connection request from a UE based at least in part on a compliance of the at least one discovery message with a relay selection rule of the UE.
