Abstract: @ Pulse code modulated signal apparatus has a recording mode and a reproducing mode and comprises input terminals for respectively receiving input signals, a digital-to-analog converter for receiving a reproduced digital input signal in the reproducing mode and producing an analog output signal corresponding thereto, and switch circuitry for making a selection of the input signals, the analog output signal and a non-signal and producing a switched output corresponding thereto. A filter filters the switched output. A control circuit controls the switch circuit in the recording mode to select one of the input signals and in the reproducing mode to select alternately the analog output signal and the non-signal, thereby providing aperture compensation.

THUS, EVEN IF THE EQUIPMENT IS REMOVED FROM THE INTERFACE (44) AND CONNECTED AGAIN, THE IRD (1) CAN RECOGNIZE THE EQUIPMENT. FURTHER, A NUMBER OF EQUIPMENT ARE NOT ARRANGED ON THE LIST DISPLAY OF THE CONNECTED EQUIPMENT, AND DESIRED EQUIPMENT CAN BE EASILY SELECTED. AMONG THE EQUIPMENT PHYSICALLY CONNECTED TO THE INTERFACE (44), THE FIVE EQUIPMENT WHICH WERE CONNECTED EARLY ARE AUTOMATICALLY REGISTERED. THE REGISTRATION CAN BE EASILY CHANGED BY A USER INPUT. WHEN THE REGISTRATION IS CHANGED, THE CHANGE OF THE REGISTRATION IS INHIBITED AMONG THE EQUIPMENT IN WHICH THE PROGRAM RESERVATION HAS BEEN SET OR THE CONNECTED EQUIPMENT. Abstract: In a method of and apparatus for interfacing digital and analog consumer electronic devices with digital and analog broadcast signals, the broadcast signals are received by electronic devices (14, 22, 30, 34, 42, 43) which tune the signals and provide them to set back boxes (46, 48, 50, 52, 53). The set back boxes process the signals and provide a plurality of signals to a plurality of electronic devices. Analog devices are provided with composite video signals, luminance video signals, chrominance video signals, and at least one audio signal, while digital devices are provided with a digital video and audio signal. The processing performed by the set back boxes (e.g. 46) includes signal descrambling (78) and decryption for analog and digital signals, error correction for digital signals, and intermediate frequency signal processing (68) for analog signals. In addition to interfacing digital signals, including high definition television (HDTV) signals, with analog electronic devices, the set back box decompresses the digital signal and converts it to an analog signal. A command line provides for communication between the set back box and the plurality of electronic devices.

Abstract: An input digital signal is recorded as inclined tracks on a magnetic tape by rotating heads. The full length (L) of the tape is nearly divided by four in the longitudinal direction. A leading portion (L / 4) of the beginning of the tape is a general data recording area and the remainder is a continuous data recording area (Fig. 9). General data and continuous data are recorded as SYNC blocks. The number of SYNC blocks for one track of the general data is the same as that of the continuous data. By dividing the SYNC blocks of one track, a basic unit of general data is formed. The basic unit is divided into sub-units. The data construction of the sub-unit is the same as that of audio data recorded in an audio data area of one track. A rate detecting circuit (43) determines rate information, representing the data rate of input data, which is supplied to a mechanism controller (45). The controller (45) controls a buffer memory (46), a frame segmenting circuit (48), and a tape head mechanism (20) in correspondence with the data rate information. For example, the number of rotations of a drum on which a rotating head is disposed and the tape travel speed are decreased in correspondence with the ratio for the case in which standard data is recorded. Thus, data at a lower data rate than that of standard data can be recorded on the tape with the same track format as that used when standard data is recorded.

Abstract: In a digital video tape recorder (VTR) (31, 32) which reproduces digital video and audio signals from a magnetic tape, a copy protect bit in the reproduced digital video signal is detected (6), and on the basis of the copy protect bit, a code is generated (7) and inserted (8) into the vertical blanking interval of the reproduced video signal. When a video signal (which may be in analog or digital form) having the code in the vertical blanking interval is received in a digital VTR, the code is detected (20) and recording of the video signal and an associated audio signal is inhibited (18, 21, 22, 23) if the code indicates that the received video signal is copy protected.
