    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus and a method realizing coating becoming uniform in film thickness with high productivity even if a substrate becomes large-sized and measuring the thickness even of a large-sized substrate having any coating film formed on the surface thereof without increasing a tact time to apply a coating soln. highly accurately at a high speed. SOLUTION: After the thickness of a substrate 40 is measured on the non- coating film surface side of the substrate 40, in a process previous to a coating process, a coating soln. emitting means (die 21) is automatically raised and lowered or inclined with respect to a substrate placing stand corresponding to the undulation state of the surface of the substrate placing stand. By this constitution, a coating soln. can be applied even to a large-sized substrate 40 having any coating film formed on the surface thereof with high accuracy.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute tracer control wherein a clearance between a die and a base is kept constant by optimizing an arrangement of a base height-detecting sensor by a method wherein a height detector for measuring the height of a member to be coated on a placing stand is provided respectively near both end parts of the member to be coated in a longitudinal direction of a coating machine. SOLUTION: A base A (a member to be coated) is fixed onto an upper surface of a placing stand 6 by vacuum suction. The placing stand 6 is horizontally reciprocated on a guide groove rail 4 via a pair of sliding legs 8. A die holder 32 fitted to an elevating mechanism 26 holds a die 40 as a coating machine. A pair of base thickness measuring units 100A 100B comprising a thickness sensor, an ascent and descent adjuster, and a transfer adjuster are held above the placing stand 6 with a support on a base stand 2. The thickness sensor is installed at a position 1 to 100 mm from an end part of the base A. Since the thickness sensor is freely position-adjustable in a width direction and an ascent and descent direction of the die 40, highly precise measurement is possible, and variation in a size of the base A can also be easily allowed to deal with.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suck all sizes of glass bases, etc., by forming the surface of a suction disc being brought into contact with a member to be coated of a porous body in an apparatus wherein coating is performed by moving relatively the member to be coated being vacuum-sucked on the suction disc and a coating head for coating the member to be coated with a coating liq. SOLUTION: In a die coater which is a coating apparatus applied for preparing a color filter for color liq. crystal display, a pair of guide channel rails 4 are formed on a base 2 and a table 6 as a suction disc is freely reciprocatingly movably mounted through a pair of slide legs 8. In addition, the top face of the table 6 is formed as a porous suction face. I.e., the table 6 consists of a porous body forming a suction face and a holding plate for supporting the porous body and four pieces of lift pins for elevating/lowering the base plate are assembled. In this case, the porous body is set so as to make the aperture ratio in the range of 1-20% and it is formed in such a way that the aperture of the porous body becomes a hole with the diameter of at most 0.5 mm.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively heat and harden a repaired area only and prevent the reoccurrence of defects if ink is applied several times with a needle material by converging infrared beam on the repaired area to be hardened. SOLUTION: A color filter 1 on which a defect is detected is absorbed and fixed on a X-Y table 3 and the X-Y table is automatically operated so that X-Y coordinate values for a non-colored defect can be right under an ink applicator 4. After it is kept at a preset gap, a pump is operated to discharge ink. The X-Y table 3 is operated again so that an ink application part can be right under a radiation heater 8. A movable table 9 is operated to move down the radiation heater 8 to a position, where reflected light from a reflecting plate 11 is converged. The spot size of the converged infrared beam depends on the upper and lower positions of the radiation heater 8. In this way, an area to which ink is applied to be corrected is only heated and hardened and required labor and time is minimized.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restore the clearance between the delivery port of the coater and a member to be coated to the original state in a well reproducible manner after venting air by holding a coater so as to be rotatable around a shaft line lying in the longitudinal direction of a delivery port of the coater and positioning the coater so as to take an operating attitude such that the delivery port is disposed opposite and parallel to the member to be coated. SOLUTION: In this die coater appropriately used for manufacturing a color filter, a slit die 40 is held inside a die holder 32 through a support means provided with a rotary holder 66, namely, at the time of allowing the slit die 40 to take an operating attitude such that a delivery port of the slit die 40 faces downward, the slit die 40 is connected to the die holder 32 by inserting a taper pin 70 into a tapered hole 72 of the die holder 32 and a tapered hole 74 of the rotary holder 66 with the rotary holder 66. At the time of removing air in the passage of a coating material, the taper pin 70 is pulled out from the tapered holes 72 and 74 to allow the delivery port of the slit die 40 to face upward. After venting air, the slit die 40 is rotated together with the rotary holder 66 so as to take the original operating attitude and restored to its original state in a well reproducible manner by inserting the taper pin 70 into the tapered holes 72 and 74.

The exhaust pipe 26 of the first suction part 12 and the drain pipe 34 of the second suction part 13 are connected to an exhaust means 27.
