Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter which has the good flatness of a surface and has a good display grade as the formation of electrode wiring patterns without defects, such as crack and distortion, is possible and a process for producing the same. SOLUTION: This color filter is composed of a polyimide resin black matrix 1 formed on a light transparent substrate 2 and pixels 3 laminated thereon. In such a case, the relation among the pattern width L1 in the pixel front surface positions of the pixels 3, the pattern width L2 in the front surface position of the black matrix 1 and the max. value tmax of the pixel film thickness in the pixel parts verging on the black matrix 1 is specified to (L2 -L1 )/2>=tmax .

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pigment dispersion blended with a new oligoamic acid, high in the dispersion stability of the pigment, and high in contrast ratio when used as a color paste, and capable of giving coating film excellent in surface smoothness and heat resistance, etc. SOLUTION: This pigment dispersion contains an oligoamic acid made up of recurring unit having structure formed by reaction between two components each consisting mainly of (A) 3,3',4,4'-diphenylsulfotetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and (B) 3,3'-diaminodiphenylsulfone and having anthraquinone skeleton on the terminal. The oligoamic acid is obtained, for example, by reaction between a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride predominant in the component A and an excess of a diamine predominant in the component B to produce an amino-terminated oligoamic acid which is, in turn, reacted with anthraquinonesulfonic acid (pref. 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid). It is preferable that the number of repetition of the above structural unit be 3-15.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a pigment dispersion used for a color paste, etc., used for a color filter, etc., having good heat resistance and light resistance by dispers ing the pigment in a solvent and then adding an oligoamic acid having an anthraquinone skeleton or abietic acid skeleton, etc. CONSTITUTION: This pigment dispersed liquid is obtained by reacting a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride expressed by formula I (R is a 2-22C tetravalent organic group) (e.g.; 3,3'4,4'-benzophenonetetracarboxylic acid) with a diamine expressed by formula II (R is a 1-22C bivalent organic group) (e.g.; 3,3'-diaminodiphenylsulfonic acid), etc., under heating in γ-butyrolactone, then reacting by adding 1,2-diaminoanthraquinone and/or abietic acid to give an oligoamic acid having a repeating unit expressed by formula III (n is 1, 2) having an anthraquinone skeleton and/or an abietic acid skeleton at least in the terminal group of one end, blending a pigment such as a red color pigment with this solution and dispersing by a homogenizer, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a pigment dispersion liquid having good dispersibility of the pigment and to improve the performance of a color filter such as high- contrast pixels by incorporating oligoamic acid into the pigment dispersion liquid prepared by dispersing the pigment in a solvent. CONSTITUTION: This pigment dispersion liquid prepared by dispersing a pigment in a solvent contains oligoamic acid. The oligoamic acid is adsorbed on the surface of a pigment particle to form an adsorption layer. As a result, pigment particles are more stably dispersed by the steric repulsion effect between adsorption layers. If the mol.wt. of oligoamic acid is small, some problems occur concerning to the solubility with the solvent or dynamic characteristics when the film is formed. If the mol.wt. is large, entangling of oligoamic acid between adsorption layers is caused or such an area that the oilgoamic acid can not permeate is produced among the pigment particles. This causes a kind of osmotic pressure effect which causes a depletion effect to induce aggregation of pigment particles. Therefore, the mol.wt. of the oligoamic acid, namely the repeating number of the structural unit is preferably 3 to 10.

CONSTITUTION:For a reloadable thermal display material, a polymer whose light transmittance varies dependent on the cases that it is heated to a specified temperature and cooled and that it is heated to a temperature higher than the specified temperature and cooled. At this time, a polymer having a polymethylene structure 2 is used for at least a part of the polymer side chain. On the other hand, a substituted polymethylene structure 1 may be provided in the polymer principal chain and the polymer having the polymethylene structure 2 in at least a part of the polymer side chain may be used. For the polymer, a fumaric acid ester polymer is used. Further, the fumaric acid ester polymer has to contain a long chain alkyl group which has 10 or more carbon atoms in its side chain.

Also the liquid crystal display device makes use of the color filter.
