    Abstract: An improved reproduction system incorporating a processor for making copies, a document handler for automatically feeding in seriatim documents to be copied to the processor and thereafter returning the documents to the document supply tray for either removal or recycling, and a sorter for either stacking or collating the copies, the sorter including a procession of copy receiving trays. To prevent overfilling of the sorter trays beyond their individual capacity, the system incorporates a control effective when the reproduction system is operated in the stacking mode to automatically switch over to the next sorter tray when the capacity of the preceding sorter tray is reached, and so on as necessary. Following completion of the copy program for the document then being copied, copies of the next succeeding document will be routed to the next empty sorter tray.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-contact optical detector for sizes and/or positions of sheets which detects the position of at least one edge part of a document sheet located on the outside (uppermost and lowermost parts) on a sheet loading tray overlappingly loaded with different sizes and/or positions of thin document sheets. SOLUTION: A latent sheet edge part area generating the shading of a detectable sheet edge part 12b is illuminated at an angle by providing lighting system 17. The position of the shading of the edge part is remotely detected by a optical detector 18, and the positional information on the sheet edge part 12b is fed to a control device to offset it with an image forming. In a document feeding device sequentially feeding the uppermost sheet or a bottom part sheets 12 for image forming, the detector measures the size of a sheet 12a being fed for image forming among stacked sheets, exclusively in response to the shading of a moving sheet edge part irrespective of the sizes of the stacked sheets 12.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce image-dependent curls by adding water content lost in fixing process. SOLUTION: Water is distributed to transfer rollers 102, 103 from reservoirs (sump) 110, 111. Contact of measuring rolls 108, 109 and the transfer rollers is manually adjusted by adjusting screws. The sump 111 must be corrected for an assembly of the upper transfer roller 103/measuring roll 109 to prevent water from dropping onto a sheet and producing an undesirable wetting characteristic. This is achievable by using a liquid dam in combination with the upper measuring roll 109, and providing an immersion nip immerged in water. As shown by an arrow mark 99, the sheet 52 and the transfer rollers 102, 103 are rotated in a reverse direction of feeding the sheet (a direction of rotation of backup rollers 104, 105 indicated by the arrow mark 999.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a system used in an electrostatic copying device capable of preventing curling and waving at the edge from occurring because moisture is lost from copying paper in the fixing step of electrostatic copying or printing. SOLUTION: This device for applying the controlled quantity of moisture to either side or both sides of the copying paper is equipped with water jets 85 arranged on both sides of the copying paper and having a reservoir for storing liquid, and a pair of pressure rolls 81 and 82 having nearly cylindrical outer surfaces; and the pressure rolls 81 and 82 are aligned along their axes so as to fix a nip between the cylindrical outer surfaces. The device is also equipped with a controller 90 controlling the moisture applied from the water jet 85 to the selected part of the passing paper before the paper enters the nip formed between the cylindrical outer surfaces.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost bookbinder tool usable for either sheets with pucned hole or ones without punched hole and allowing flat opening of pages. SOLUTION: The bookbinding system contains a stud-shaped flexible binding member having top and bottom caps. A staple of a signature projects from the signature itself to form a stud hole, and the stud is inserted into this signature staple. The binding member may be made of an optional material of a high flexibility including silicone or metal, as long as the signature can be opened flat on both the signature interface or the optional signature body. Also the flexible binding member can be used to temporarily bind previously-punched pages of a book.
