Abstract: A process for fabricating ceramic-metal composites having continuous ceramic and metallic phases. The process includes the steps of contacting a porous ceramic matrix material having the general shape of an article of manufacture with molten metal whereby capillary action pulls the metal into the open porosity of the ceramic matrix to substantially fill the open void space. The present invention also provides a ceramic-metal composite having continuous metal and ceramic phases.

Abstract: The present invention is in a sintered molding of partially stabilized zirconium oxide having a microstructure of 40 to 70 volume percent cubic phase, 30 to 70 volume percent tetragonal phase, and up to 10 volume percent monoclinic phase wherein the tetragonal phase is present in the form of precipitates less than 200 nm. A mixture of magnesia and yttria is used to stabilize the zirconia. Optionally, the sintered molding may further contain up to 20 wt. % spinel.

Abstract: This invention is concerned with an exhaust valve for Diesel engine and a method thereof, in which a seat of the exhaust valve is formed with coated layer comprising ceramics and metals, the layer becoming thicker in density of ceramics as coming nearly to the surface thereof. The seat may be formed with the coated layer by subjecting to pressing-heating treatment after coating. This kind of the exhaust valve is provided by coating ceramics and metals onto a seating portion of the mother material such that ceramics becomes thicker in density as advancing to the surface, and heating the coated layer in electric conductivity while pressing the layer with the tool in non oxidizing atmosphere.

본 발명은 디젤엔진용 실린더헤드의 열피로 크랙방지를 위한 지르코니아 박막의 코팅시 지르코니아 졸을 실린더헤드의 연소실부에만 국부적으로 분무코팅하는 방법을 채용하는 한편, 이때의 조건은 모재온도 250℃ 이상, 코팅 이후 400℃ 이상에서 3시간 이상 4시간 이하 열처리를 실시하는 과정을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디젤엔진용 실린더헤드의 열피로 크랙방지를 위한 코팅방법을 제공한다.-
