Abstract: PURPOSE: To perform automatically an accurate measurement by a selected frame by detecting a center position through an analysis of a luminance gradient within each pupil of a spectacled person, and the position of the horizontal and vertical directional linear lines located in the frame tangential direction based on the analysis of the luminance gradient and an extracted frame contour. CONSTITUTION: A window 45 is defined in a center position of a pupil 45 and at every point of the inside image, a luminance gradient norm is detected, to which a threshold value is applied to detect the reflection center. Further, a smaller processing window 44 is installed, the data is converted into a two- value format and the obtained pixel core is made to be the center of the pupil 45. Making the pupil 45 as a basis, processing windows (the left side 46, right side 48, upper side 49 and lower side 47) are defined and a mapping of the luminance gradient norms is calculated in the inside of each window. The point having a larger gradient norm than the threshold value is selected, the vertical directional tangent lines of the frames 11, 13 and the horizontal directional tangent lines of the frames 16, 17 are obtained, respectively, these contours are converted into the two-value format and an image with an inside and outside contours of the frame 41 is obtained within each window.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide the progressive lens for ophthalmology with a front surface including a center zone as an optically effective zone which is progressively variable in curvature along at least part of at least one meridian surface and successive peripheral connection zones which surround the center zone and are connected to the center zone in a tangential direction. CONSTITUTION: The optically effective center zone 14 on the front surface 11A of the progressive lens 10 for ophthalmology is limited by a closed curve which is oval on the whole while projecting onto a plane perpendicular to the geometric axis of an assembly. Then the radius of curvature of the radial section of the peripheral connection zone 15 varies in value and/or sign in the circumferential direction so that the thickness of the lens becomes nearly equal along the peripheral edge part 13.

Abstract: A workpiece holder apparatus is disclosed for use with a surfacing tool for surfacing optical lenses having a surface of revolution especially afocal ophthalmic lenses. A workpiece holder comprises a chamber having an endwall, a sidewall and an open end, for receiving an optical lens. The chamber is connected in operation to a source of compressed air, and an air cushion is established between the endwall and the lens. There is radial clearance annularly between the edge of the sidewall and the edge of the lens. The air cushion is controlled by an annular projection protruding from the endwall, in cooperation with a facing portion of the lens. The entire workpiece holder is adapted to be fitted on a conventional fluid actuator for applying the lens against the surfacing tool.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To avoid the pre-deformation of a spectacle rim metal etc., by mathematically drawing the coordinate values at which the pressing force of a contact feeler becomes zero from two systematically read continuous coordinate values at which the pressing force of the feeler does not become zero. CONSTITUTION: The head 14 of a contact feeler 12 is pressed against the rear side of the rim metal or rim frill 10 of a spectacle frame 11 to be read for contour with a specific force F and the coordinate values of the feeler 12 are recorded whenever the feeler 12 is pressed. The local deformation of the rim metal or rim frill 10 inevitably occurs when the feeler 12 is pressed against the rim metal or rim frill 10 with the force F. It is presumed that the local deformation stays within the elastic limit of the rim metal or rim frill 10. By systematically reading two continuous coordinate values, a first set value F1 at which the pressing force F does not become zero and a second set value F2 at which the force F does not become zero and which is different from the first value F1 are obtained. The coordinates of the set value F0 at which the force F of the feeler 12 becomes zero is mathematically drawn from the two read coordinate values.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To efficiently fix holding parts onto the lenses of spectacles by providing a belt and gear transmitter for moving an arm from one terminal position to the other terminal position between a carriage and the arm. CONSTITUTION: A carriage 20 is moved within a straight line in 1st direction specified by a guide 24 fixed on a frame 21. Besides, a pivot 34 of an arm 16 exists in 2nd direction vertical to the 1st direction, and a belt and gear transmitter 30 is operated between the carriage 20 and the arm 16 so that the arm 16 can be moved from one terminal position to the other terminal position. Then, holding parts 12 including suckers 13, for example, are fixed onto spectacles lenses 10 placed on a plate 11. Thus, the holding parts 12 can be efficiently fixed on the spectacles lenses 10.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To be advantageous for the aesthetics of eyeglasses by providing a male section, which is slender in lengthwise direction, parallel with the lengthwise axial line of a temple member at an intermediate member. CONSTITUTION: 1st and 2nd hinge parts 14 and 15 are assembled by hinge pin screws 16, and a ball 35 is pressed onto a cam face 15a by the lateral face of the 2nd hinge part 15. The lateral contour of cam face 15a of the 2nd hinge part 15 determines the stable position of the temple member. As a means for determining the stable position of the temple member, a passage 22 for accepting a screw stopper 26 is used. When fitting a temple body element 12 to an intermediate member 13, the screw stopper 26 is inserted into the passage, a male member 19 is screwed with a bore 28 of the temple body element, and the head part of the screw is fastened until it is held and engaged with a holding surface 24. Thus, fitting is not performed by any visible side screw.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve visual acuity of a person suffering from macular degeneration by using a positive ophthalmological lens of high magnification placed in front of an eye and a negative intraocular lens of high magnification embedded after removing the crystal lens and making at least each one face of both lenses a rotary aspheric surface. CONSTITUTION: This optical system is composed of a positive ophthalmological lens 10 of high magnification placed in front of an eye to be treated and a negative intraocular lens 11 of high magnification embedded in the eye 12 after removing the crystal lens, and at least each one face 21, 25 of both lenses 10, 11 is a rotary aspheric surface. The generating line of the rotary aspheric surface is preferably a conic section, and a conic section containing rotary aspheric surface can be expressed by Formulae I and II. In Formula I and II Z is the coordinate along the axial line, and r =X +Y where X and Y are coordinates on the plane perpendicular to the axial line, R1 and R5 are the radii of curvature of the plane in the center, and K1 and K5 are conical constants that can derive the planes of desired conic section bus line from the basic spherical plane of radii R1 and R5. The use of appropriate conical constant K1 and K5 gives ellipse for the generating line of the front face 10, 11 when the image formed on retina is of good quality.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To simply, exactly and economically settle a lens to be used within the contour of any die plate by providing the system with an adsorber support, and fitting a die plate support, with which the die plate to be overlapped on the lens can be freely attached and detached, to a barrel attached onto an arm so as to be freely rotated. CONSTITUTION: In the state of setting an arm 14 at an extending position, a lens 11 is centered through a watch hole 18 by using a table 12 while considering the parameter such as the pupil range of a relevant person. Next, in order to place a die plate 22 on a die plate support 21 of a barrel 20, the barrel, 20 is rotated with an axis A2 as a center for locating the die plate support 21 closest to the watch hole 18, and when the arm 14 is returned along an arrow F with an axis A1 as a center later, the die plate 22 is overlapped onto the lens 11. Therefore, the settling of the lens into the contour of the die plate 22 is visually examined later. Next, the arm 14 is held up and when the arm 14 is returned again after the barrel 20 is rotated by half so as to position an adsorber support 15 closest to the watch hole 18, a grasping/holding mechanism 13 is abutted on the lens 11 and fixed.
