    Abstract: This invention relates to methods and systems for determining whether a reference point in a location system has changed using the entropy of channel impulse responses. In one embodiment a method of determining whether the location of a first one of a plurality of reference points used in a location system has changed is provided. The reference points each have a known initial position and the method includes the steps of: estimating a channel impulse response of a wireless channel between the first reference point and a second of said plurality of reference points; determining the difference between the estimated channel impulse response and a previously-estimated channel impulse response of the wireless channel; estimating an entropy of the difference between the channel impulse responses; and determining, from said comparison, whether the location of the first reference point has changed. In another embodiment the method includes the steps of: estimating an entropy of the channel impulse response of a wireless channel between the first reference point and a second of said plurality of reference points; comparing the estimated entropy to a previously-estimated entropy for the channel impulse response of the wireless channel; determining, from said comparison, whether the location of the first reference point has changed.

    Abstract: A device (10) and method for detecting COVID-19 and other pathogens includes a sample compartment (26) contained within an interior of the device and having multiple apertures (32) for releasably receiving one or more test tubes (42) containing a biological sample. A bottom portion (48) of the test tube (42) is contained within the interior (22) of the device (10) and a top portion (46) of the test tube (42) is exposed to atmosphere. The biological sample is lysed using the device (10); the lysed sample is mixed with one or more primers and then amplification (RT-LAMP) is performed using the device (10). A thermally conductive material on or in proximity to the sample compartment (26) can facilitate precise heating of the compartment (26) and sample. A thermally insulative material can be inside the interior of the compartment housing (30). Multiple samples can be tested simultaneously. The results can be interpreted by a color change of the sample. The device (10) is efficient, portable, reliable, and re-usable.

    Abstract: A robotic catheter can include bi-stable concentric tubes and a torsional spring mechanism that can provide torque at the proximal extremity of one or more tubes. The robotic catheter can compensate for the energy that may be released by the tubes snapping from on stable- equilibrium position to another by using the energy stored in the torsional spring mechanism. The energy released by the tubes upon snapping from one stable-equilibrium position to the other can be compensated by the energy stored in the torsional spring at the base, thereby resulting in the first, energy-free, zero stiffness catheter system that (1) synchronizes with the motion of the heart and (2) naturally results in optimal, pseudo-constant contact force with the tissue.

    Abstract: A thermal energy storage (TES) for Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants consists of a two-tank molten salt storage. There is a provided need for a thermal energy receiving and storage system for CSP plants. To demonstrate how thermocline TES can be used in the CSPonD concept, a water tank is used for receiving a heat transfer fluid, which includes an absorbing mesh that is mountable within the tank for establishing and maintaining natural stratification resulting in a thermocline zone within the tank, and additionally comprises a plug flow injection system for establishing plug flow within the tank. A method of establishing and maintaining natural stratification, involves pumping cold heat transfer fluid, injecting the cold heat transfer fluid, and controlling the pumping and the injecting, all within the tank.
