Abstract: A household detergent consisting of a mixture of tetrapropylene benzene sulphonate, oleyl sulphate, sodium perborate, magnesium silicate, sodium silicate, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium tetrapyrophosphate, sodium sulphate, carboxymethyl cellulose and water is admixed with optical brightening agents which in their anionic form have the general formula:- in which X represents a 1-aza-4-thiocyclo-hex-1-yl-4,4-dioxide radical, a 2,6-dimethyl-1-aza-4-thiacyclohex-1-yl-4,4-dioxide radical or a radical of the formula:- and Y is a hydroxy group, an amino group, a monosubstituted amino group such as an alkylamino, cycloalkylamino, arylamino, hydroxyalkylamino or alkoxyalkylamino group, a disubstituted amino group such as a dialkylamino, di(hydroxyalkyl) amino or di(alkoxyalkyl) amino group, a pyrrolidino, piperidino or morpholino group, a 1-aza-4-thiacyclohex-1-yl-4,4-dioxide radical or a group of the formula or salts thereof with alkali metals, ammonia or primary, secondary or tertiary amines. Specification 874,519 is referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises optical brightening agents which in their anionic form have the general formula:- in which X represents a 1-aza-4-thiocyclo-hex-1-yl-4,4-dioxide radical, a 2,6-dimethyl-1-aza-4-thiacyclohex-1-yl-4,4-dioxide radical or a radical of the formula:- and Y is a hydroxy group, an amino group, a monosubstituted amino group such as an alkylamino, cycloalkylamino, arylamino, hydroxyalkylamino or alkoxyalkylamino group, a disubstituted amino group such as a dialkylamino, di(hydroxyalkyl) amino or di(alkoxyalkyl) amino group, a pyrrolidino, piperidino or morpholino group, a 1-aza-4-thiacyclohex-1-yl-4,4-dioxide radical or a group of the formula or salts thereof with alkali metals, ammonia or primary, secondary or tertiary amines. The above brightening agents are prepared by reacting in any order two mols. of a cyanuric halide with one mol. of an alkali metal salt of a 4,41-diamino-stilbene disulphonic acid of the formula:- and with two mols. of 1-aza-4-thia-cyclohexane-4,4-dioxide or two mols. of 2,6-dimethyl - 1 - aza-4-thiacyclohexane-4,4-dioxide, and further reacting the products obtained with aqueous alkali, ammonia, an alkylamine, a dialkylamine, a cycloalkylamine, a hydroxyalkylamine, a di(hydroxyalkyl) amine, an alkoxyalkylamine, a di(alkoxyalkyl) amine, an arylamine, pyrrolidine, morpholine, piperidine or 1 - aza-4-thiacyclo-hexane-4,4-dioxide or, after having reacted the said products or the initial compound (obtained by the reaction of cyanuric acid halide with 4,41-diaminostilbene disulphonic acid) with ammonia, the resulting compounds are treated with a mixture of aqueous formaldehyde and 1-aza-4-thiacyclohexane-4,4-dioxide or, after having reacted the initial compound (obtained by the reaction of cyanuric halide with 4,41-diaminostilbene disulphonic acid) with 2 mols. of aqueous alkali, a primary or secondary amine, pyrrolidine, piperidine or morpholine, the remaining chlorine substituents are replaced by means of ammonia and the resulting amino compound is condensed with formaldehyde and 2 mols. of 1-aza-4-thiacyclohexane-4,4-dioxide. Specification 874,519 is referred to.ALSO:Foils, films, felts, fibres, threads, yarns, flocks and woven and non-woven fabrics of natural, regenerated and synthetic material, such as leather, synthetic polymers (plastics), cotton, household washing, paper, native or regenerated cellulose and linear polyamides (e.g. polycaprolactam) are brightened by treatment with optical brightening agents which in their anionic form have the general formula:- in which X represents a 1-aza-4-thiocyclohex-1-yl-4,4-dioxide radical, a 2,6-dimethyl-1-aza-4-thiocyclohex-1-yl-4,4-dioxide radical or a radical of the formula:- and Y is a hydroxy group, an amino group, a monosubstituted amino group such as an alkylamino, cycloalkylamino, arylamino, hydroxyalkylamino or alkoxyalkylamino group, a disubstituted amino group such as a dialkylamino, di(hydroxyalkyl) amino or di(alkoxyalkyl) amino group, a pyrrolidino, piperidino or morpholino group, a 1-aza-4-thiocyclohex-1-yl-4,4-dioxide radical or a group of the formula or salts thereof with alkali metals, ammonia or primary, secondary or tertiary amines. Other ingredients which may be present in the aqueous treatment bath are formic acid, hydrogen peroxide, tetrapropylene benzene chromium trioxide to trichloracetic acid in solution in an aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g. toluene. Material treated by either process may be dried at an elevated temperature. Treatment enhances the adhesion of the fabric for materials of other high molecular synthetic or high molecular natural substances, e.g. gelatin, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl butyral, polyethylene and polyamides. In an example, a polyethylene terephthalate fabric is bathed for 10 secs. in a solution of 100 parts by weight of water, 2.5 parts by weight of trichloracetic acid, 0.25 part by weight of chromium trioxide and 0.2 part by weight of a wetting agent, and is then dried in an oven. The dried fabric is then united with a polyamide film by pressing them together under the influence of heat.

Abstract: LIQUID ISOCYANURATE GROUP-CONTAINING POLYISOCYANATE MIXTURES OF 4,4'- AND 2,4'-DIPHENYLMETHANE DIISOCYANATE, METHOD FOR THEIR PREPARATION AND THEIR USE IN POLYURETHANE OR POLYISOCYANURATE PLASTICS Isocyanurate group-containing polyisocyanate mixtures which are liquid at room temperature and which have an isocyanate group content of from 23 to 31 weight percent are obtained through the partial trimerization of a mixture comprised of from about 80 to about 30 percent by weight 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate and from about 20 to about 70 percent by weight 2,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate in the presence of a trimerization catalyst, preferably an adduct of tri(dimethylaminopropyl)-s-hexahydrotriazine, 1,2propylene oxide, and 2-ethylhexanoic acid, and, in some cases, after chemical deactivation of the catalyst.

Abstract: Polyurethanes of M.W. at least 104 and having no isocyanate groups are mixed before, during or after shaping with at least 0.1% of an organic amine which contains not only one or more amino groups but also at least one nitrilo, carbamic ester, thio-carbamic -O-ester, carboxylic ester, carbonyl, carboxylic amide, ether or thioether group and/or at least one cycloaliphatic radical having at least 3C to improve resistance to gas-fume fading. The amine may have the general formula in which X denotes a hydrogen atom or a low M.W. alkyl group, a group of formula -CH2-SO2M or a methylene group whose second valence is attached to the ring atom bearing the nitrogen, Y denotes a hydrogen atom, a low M.W. alkyl group or one of the groups of the formula where A denotes a methylene group, 1, 2-propylene group, or ethylene group, Z denotes a methylene group or ethylene group and M denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkali metal ion or ammonium ion. Many suitable amines are specified. In examples: (1) a polyurethane cloth derived from 1,6-hexane diisocyanate and 1,4-butane diisocyanate was immersed in a liquor containing water and the formaldehyde-bisulphite compound of the reaction product of 4,41-diaminodicyclohexylmetnane and acrylonitrile, (2) a skein of polyurethane derived from 1 : 4-butane diisocyanate and 1 : 4-butane diol was immersed in a liquor containing water and 4,41 - diaminodicyclohexyl methane, (3) spirocyclohexylenaminopropionitrile - (1 - b - cyanoethyl - 2,2 - pentamethylene - ethyleneimine) was added to a molten polyurethane prior to spinning. In other examples, the amines used were: (4) the carbamic ester derived from 2 moles of phenylisocyanate and 1 mole of N-propyldiethanolamine, (5) the carbamic ester obtained from 1 mole of hexamethylene diisocyanate and 2 moles of N-dimethylisopropanolamine, (6) the formaldehyde-bisulphite compound of (12) as in Example (1); (13) a mixture of compounds of formulae ALSO:Polyurethanes of MW at least 104 and containing no isocyanate groups are mixed before, during or after shaping with at least 0.1% of an organic amine which contains not only one or more amino groups but also at least one nitrilo, carbamic ester, thio-carbamic-0-ester, carboxylic ester, carbonyl, carboxylic amide, ether or thioether and/or at least one cycloaliphatic radical having at least 3C to improve resistance to gas fume fading. In a typical Example (1) a cloth of polyurethane derived from 1,6 hexane diisocyanate and 1,4 butane diol was immersed in a liquor consisting of water and the formaldehyde bisulphite compound of the reaction product of 4,41 diaminodicyclohexyl methane and acrylonitrile, rinsed and dried. In Example (2) a skein of polyurethane was immersed in a liquor consisting of water and 4,41 diaminodicyclohexylmethane.

Abstract: In a process for the anionic polymerization of lactams having 5 to 14 ring members, the polymerization activator used is a compound of the general formula where n is 1 or 2, R1 and R2 are each monovalen hydrocarbon radicals having one to seven carbon atoms or R1 and R2 joined together form a divalent radical, R3 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical having one to eight carbon atoms and R, when n is 1 is an alkyl amine, arylamino or aralkylamino radical having one to fourteen carbon atoms, and, when n is 2 is a divalent radical having the formula -NH-R3-NH- where R4 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical having two to fifteen carbon atoms. Specified lactams are pyrrolidone, piperidone, e -caprolactam, capryllactam, oenanthiclactam, capriclactam, laurolactam, e -ethyl-e -caprolactam, #x-ethyl-#x-oenantholactam and methylenebis-caprolactam. Fillers, e.g. glass fibres, asbestos, graphite, gypsum, chalk, molybdenum sulphide, wood flour and fibres may be incorporated into the polymerization mixture. In Examples (1) to (6), e -caprolactam is polymerized in the presence of sodium caprolactam and: (1) benzimidazole-1-carboxylic anilide; (2) imidazole-1-carboxylic acid N : N1-diphenyl amide; (3) benzimidazole-1-carboxylic acid (N1-methyl) anilide; (4) 2-methylimidazoline-N(1)-carboxylic acid N : N1-diphenyl amide; (5) N : N - hexamethylene - bis - (carbamyldimethyl formamidine) and (6) (a) hexamethylene - bis - (N1 - carbamyl - 2 - methylimidazoli (b) hexamethylene-bis-(N-carbamyltriphenyl formamidine). In Example (7) pyrrolidone is polymerized in the presence of sodium methylate and imidazole-1-carboxylic diphenylamide.
