    Abstract: Carbodiimides based on 1,3-bis-(1-methyl-1-isocyanato-ethyl)-benzene (BMIEB), which contain urea structures and sulfonic acid and/or sulfonate groups. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a process for the production of carbodiimides by the reaction of BMIEB in presence of catalysts with cleavage of carbon dioxide, followed by reaction of the isocyanate group-containing carbodiimide with aminosulfonic acid(s) and/or aminosulfonate(s); (b) carbodiimides obtained by this process; (c) mixtures of these carbodiimides with compounds containing ester units or with polyurethanes containing ester groups, polycondensation products such as thermoplastic polyesters (e.g. polyethylene and polybutylene terephthalate), polyether-esters, polyester-esters, polyester-amides, polycaprolactones, unsaturated polyester resins, polyoxymethylene homo- and co-polymers or polyamides; (d) a process for the production of polyurethane (PU) elastomers by reacting isocyanates with isocyanate-reactive compounds, blowing agents and optionally catalysts and additives etc., in presence of these carbodiimides; and (e) PU elastomers obtained by process (d).

    Abstract: An aqueous dispersion comprising a polyurethane synthesized from a) organic diisocyanates b) dihydroxy compounds having a molar weight of 500 to 5000 g/mol and comprising no ionic group or group that can be converted to an ionic group c) mono- to trihydric alcohols which additionally comprise an ionic group d) if appropriate, further compounds, different from a) to c), wherein the polyurethane comprises less than 0.6% by weight of urea groups (calculated with a molar weight of 56 g/mol), the ionic group of c) is at least partly neutralized with ammonia, and the reaction of compounds a), b), c), and d) does not take place in the presence of an organometallic catalyst.

    Abstract: Aqueous dispersions comprising a polyurethane synthesized from a) diisocyanates, b) diols of which b 1 ) from 10 to 100 mol %, based on the total amount of diols (b), have a molecular weight of from 500 to 5 000, and b 2 ) from 0 to 90 mol %, based on the total amount of diols (b), have a molecular weight of from 60 to 500 g/mol, c) monomers other than the monomers (a) and (b), containing at least one isocyanate group or at least one isocyanate-reactive group and further carrying at least one hydrophilic group or potentially hydrophilic group by means of which the polyurethane is made dispersible in water, d) if appropriate, further, polyfunctional compounds other than the monomers (a) to (c), containing reactive groups which are alcoholic hydroxyl groups, primary or secondary amino groups or isocyanate groups, and e) if appropriate, monofunctional compounds other than the monomers (a) to (d), containing a reactive group which is an alcoholic hydroxyl group, a primary or secondary amino group or an isocyanate group, wherein the diols b 1 comprise less than 0.5 part by weight of cyclic compounds per 100 parts by weight of diols b1.
