Abstract:
Described herein are compositions comprising an unactivated liquid, an immobilized sparingly soluble acid or base, such that during storage the unactivated liquid is not in contact with the immobilized sparingly soluble acid or base, but upon use, the unactivated liquid contacts the immobilized sparingly soluble acid or base, whereby the pH of the liquid is altered, thereby activating the liquid to provide a benefit; together with variant and alternative designs, methods of making and using the compositions, and components thereof.
Abstract:
Described herein are tooth whitening strips comprising an hydratable adhesive film having a granular bleaching ingredient attached thereto, wherein upon hydration, the granular bleaching ingredient releases hydrogen peroxide which is used by an enzyme catalyst having perhydrolytic activity to enzymatically produce an effective amount of peracid bleaching agent from an acyl donor substrate. Methods of making and use the tooth whitening strips are also provided.
Abstract:
Oral care compositions comprising isobutyl magnolol and n -butyl magnolol. A method of enhancing the solubility of isobutyl magnolol in an oral care composition comprises admixing n -butyl magnolol with an orally acceptable carrier comprising isobutyl magnolol. The composition may be used to treat diseases or conditions of the oral cavity such as caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, tooth yellowing and halitosis.
Abstract:
Described herein are compositions comprising an active compound from an extract of magnolia, or a derivative thereof; and a non-surfactant electrolyte in an amount effective to stabilize the composition, and methods of making and using the same.
Abstract:
An apparatus for conducting oral care experiments with enamel block substrates (140) and a method of forming and using the same. In one aspect, the invention can be an apparatus for conducting oral care experiments comprising: a plate having a first major surface (111) and a second major surface (112); a handle (170) coupled to and extending from the plate; and at least one enamel block substrate mounted on the first major surface of the plate.
Abstract:
Improved analytical, diagnostic, monitoring, and other methods (and their associated devices) for evaluating the extent of deposition of an agent onto a substrate are described. Exemplary methods may be used in the in the monitoring of the dental health of patients or in the fast, efficient screening and/ or characterization of formulations in terms of their use for depositing oral actives onto tooth surfaces. The methods involve the direct or in situ analysis of substrates, onto which agents are deposited, using Near-IR spectroscopy and/ or UV spectroscopy.
Abstract:
A composition of matter comprising an oil adduct synthesized by an oil and an addition material, wherein the oil includes at least one member chosen from an ethoxylated oil, a hydrogenated oil, and an ethoxylated and hydrogenated oil; wherein the average degree of ethoxylation in the ethoxylated (optionally hydrogenated) oil is less than about 10 based on moles of ethylene oxide per mole of oil; wherein the hydrogenated (optionally ethoxylated) oil has an iodine value of less than about 75; wherein the oil is capable of undergoing reaction with the addition material through a hydroxyl group of the oil; and wherein the addition material includes at least one member chosen from carboxylic acid anhydrides, maleic anhydride, dicarboxylic acids, fumaric acid, maleic acid, succinic acid, alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, lactic acid, glycolic acid, lactobionic acid, carnitine, salicylic acid, and (meth)acrylic acid.
Abstract:
An orally consumable film composition for delivering breath freshening agents to the oral cavity which is rapidly dissolvable or dispersible in the oral cavity, the composition being comprised of a homogeneous mixture of a water dispersible film forming polymer and an enzyme.
Abstract:
A thin, flexible film which when applied to stained teeth is hydrated by saliva and is effective in such form to whiten teeth, the film comprising an anhydrous water hydratable ethylene oxide polymer matrix containing a solid peroxide whitening agent whereby upon application to stained tooth surfaces, the peroxide whitening agent is solublilized by saliva present in the oral cavity into active whitening activity when the film is positioned and placed on the teeth.
Abstract:
This application relates to novel aqueous oral care compositions useful for combining and delivering incompatible stannous fluoride, and/or stannous chloride, and/or stannous pyrophosphate and potassium salts, with a polyphosphate source, wherein the polyphosphate source comprises three or more phosphate moieties or units, in a high-water composition, for example, to provide effective caries prevention, protection against dental erosion, relief from dental hypersensitivity, and to treat or reduce malodor.
