    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high-molecular weight polycarbonate, excellent in transparency and suitable for injection molding, etc., without using toxic phosgene by polycondensing a dihydric phenol with a carbonic acid diester in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A dihydric phenol such as 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane is polycondensed with a carbonic acid diester in the presence of a catalyst selected from a benzylcarbanion-forming compound expressed by the formula [R1 is H, 1-5C alkoxyl or nitro; R2 and R3 are H, 1-5C alkyl or phenyl; M is zinc, tin, lead, antimony or bismuth; (l) is 2-4] (e.g. zinc diphenylacetate) to afford the objective polycarbonate.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polycarbonate having a high molecular weight and improved colorlessness, transparency and production efficiency by melt- polycondensing a dihydroxy compound with a bisaryl carbonate by transesterification in four specified steps. CONSTITUTION:In step 1, a monomer mixture comprising a dihydroxy compound (A) and a bisaryl carbonate (B) is polycondensed in a molten state in at least one tank-type reactor to obtain a polycarbonate prepolymer of a viscosity- average molecular weight of 5000-20000. In step 2, this prepolymer is received in at least one hold tank, step 3, it is polycondensed in a vented extruder to obtain a polycarbonate of a viscosity-average molecular weight of 10000-30000 while the distillate such as the phenol formed by the reaction is removed. In step 4, this polycarbonate is treated in at least one paddle-type self-cleaning twin-screw extruder to melt-polycondense components A and B by transesterification to thereby obtain a polycarbonate of a viscosity-average molecular weight of 10000-30000.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a lowly colored high-molecular weight polycarbonate by melt-polycondensing a dihydroxy compound with a bisaryl carbonate in a reactor having an inside wall made of buffed stainless steel. CONSTITUTION:The inside wall of a stainless steel reactor is buffed with a buffing compound having a grain size of 80mum or below. A dihydroxy compound of any one of formulas I-IV (wherein R1 to R5 are each H, 1-8C linear or branched alkyl or phenyl; X is halogen, (n) is 0-4; and (m) is 1-4) is melt- polycondensed with a bisaryl carbonate at 100-300 deg.C in the presence of a transesterification catalyst (e.g. lithium borohydride) in the reactor.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recovering an epoxidized block copolymer from its organic solvent solution by a simpler and more economical process and to provide an epoxidized block copolymer which does not emit any foreign odor during molding and can give a molding not suffering from poor appearance. SOLUTION: An epoxidized block polymer obtained by epoxidizing a block copolymer composed of a block of a polymer based on a vinylaromatic hydrocarbon compound and a block of a polymer based on a conjugated diene compound or a hydrogenation product thereof in an organic solvent is recovered from its organic solution. In this operation, the above solution is fed into a vaporizer to directly vaporize and remove the organic solvent. According to this method, an epoxidized block copolymer of a content having a residual organic solvent of 5,000ppm or below can be obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a primer composition to be used in bonding, coating, laminating and combining a slightly bondable plastic material and an inorganic material such as glass, ceramic, concrete, metal, etc., as an object.     Abstract: PURPOSE: To produce an epoxydized block copolymer having a low water con tent stably without loss of epoxy groups by epoxidizing a specified block copoly mer under specified conditions and subjecting the epoxidized copolymer to a specified treatment. CONSTITUTION: A (hydrogenated) block copolymer composed of a polymer block (A) based on a vinylaromatic hydrocarbon compound and a polymer block (B) based on a conjugated diene compound is mixed with an organic solvent to form a solvent slurry or solution of the copolymer, and the C-C unsaturations present in block (B) are epoxidized with an epoxidizing agent (e.g. peracetic acid). The reaction solution is subjected to neutralization and/or water washing to lower the acid value of the solution to 5mgKOH/g or below and the formed solution of a polymer concentration of 5-50wt.% is stripped at a temperature of the boiling point of the solvent or the azeotropic point of its azeotrope with water to 120 deg.C in the presence of a surfactant. The obtained crumbs of the epoxydized copolymer are dehydrated to a water content of 1-30wt.% and further dried to obtain the target copolymer having a water content of 1wt.% or below and an epoxy equivalent of 140-2700.
