    Abstract: Se revela un método y sistema que se aplica a la proteccion de la oportunidad de transmision (TXOP) de MAC para la operacion de modo multiple en un sistema WLAN. En particular, los mecanismos MAC son definidos para soportar cuadros CTS de modo multiple, y los cuadros CF-End de modo multiple por el punto de acceso, cada uno en un formato apropiado para el modo correspondiente que también se aplica a un modo como un caso trivial. Los mecanismos MAC permiten el truncamiento de la duracion de la oportunidad de transmision para la liberacion de la parte no usada del oportunidad de transmision cuando no están datos disponibles para transmision. Es posible la liberacion de oportunidad de transmision protegida no usada tanto para transmisiones de punto de acceso como para transmisiones de estacion.

    Abstract: Se describe un sistema de comunicaciones inalambricas que utiliza un sistema de enlace directo (DLS). Una estacion movil (STA) establece un enlace de comunicacion directa con otra STA mediante el envio de un mensaje donde solicita un DLS a un punto de acceso (AP), (es decir, un controlador centralizado. El AP puede aceptar o rechazar la peticion de DLS con base en mediciones de canal. Si se acepta la peticion de DLS, el DLS se establece, de modo tal que las STAs se pueden comunicarse directamente entre si. Una conexion de DLS establecida se puede desmontar si el AP envia un mensaje que incluye una peticion de desmontaje de DLS a una de las STAs, o con base en las mediciones de canal. El sistema puede ser una red Ad hoc que comprende una pluralidad de STAs sin un AP, donde cada STA mantiene una base de datos de las STAs de un salto y de dos saltos, y que establece un enlace directo con otras STAs luego de informar a las STAs vecinas de una intencion de establecer un enlace de comunicacion directa.

    Abstract: A method and system for controlling access to a medium in a wireless communication system. A superframe structure is defined in time domain to include a contention free period (CFP) which has at least one scheduled resource allocation (SRA), at least one management SRA (MSRA) and a contention period. An extended beacon (EB) including information about the SRA and MSRA is transmitted for. The MAC architecture reduces station battery consumption, supports higher throughput for non-real time (NRT) traffic and is more efficient for real time (RT) traffic while maintaining full compatibility.

    Abstract: A transmitter generates and transmits a low rate signal to its intended receiver. Upon receiving the low rate signal, the intended receiver generates and transmits a channel sounding response (CSR), said CSR being a short burst having a predefined transmit format and carrying predetermined information. The transmitter then analyzes the CSR and determines uplink channel response, estimates downlink channel response, and determines appropriate transmit parameter settings based on the analysis and downlink response estimate. Adjustment of the transmit parameters can be made in either the MAC or PHY layer or in a combination of both. After adjusting its transmit parameters and modulating sub-carriers with user-data according to the determined transmit settings, the transmitter transmits the user-data to the receiver on a preferred portion of bandwidth. In a preferred embodiment, the transmitter also generates and transmits a transmit format control (TFC) signal containing the determined transmit parameter settings, including sub-carrier modulation information, to the receiver.
