Abstract:
This invention relates to a mixture of imageable polyacetylenic compounds which have similar photosensitivities and which are visually imageable in complementary colors combinable to provide a black image, which mixture contains at least one polyacetylenic metal salt which produces a color, preferably a metal salt of a diacetylene C6 to C48 mono- or dicarboxylic acid, which is complementary to a color produced by another polyacetylenic metal salt or non-metallic polyacetylenic compound contained in the mixture or in an another integral color forming layer. The invention also pertains to the use of said mixture and the manner of its preparation.

Abstract:
A process is described for making substantially homogeneous copolymers comprising 20-99 % of vinyl pyrrolidone (VP) and 1-80 % of N-3,3-dimethylaminopropyl methacrylamide (DMAPMA), preferably 50-95 % VP and 5-50 % DMAPMA, and, most preferably, about 80:20, by weight, having a weight average molecular weight of about 200,000 to 1,500,000, as a clear, low viscosity aqueous solution of the homogeneous copolymer, at a 5-20 % solids level, preferably about 10-15 %, by weight of the solution, having a viscosity of about 5,000 to 80,000 cps, preferably about 10,000 to 70,000 cps. The solution obtained herein has lower viscosity and better clarity, and provides hair care products with enhanced curl retention (hold), when compared to non-homogeneous copolymers of the same composition, or related existing commercial products.

A radiation dosimeter for preparing a dosage map of a specific rotary canister of a blood radiating machine. This dosimeter (14) includes a sandwich assembly of a first panel (16) and a second panel (18) and a gamma ray-sensitive film (20) disposed therebetween, for mounting temporarily in the canister (12) during gamma ray dosage and canister rotation.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an improved process for producing a clear solution of vinylpyrrolidone (VP) and vinyl acetate (VA) monomers which comprises, in an anhydrous system, (a) reacting a C2 to C3 alcoholic solution containing said VA monomer and between about 60 and about 80 wt.% portion of total VP monomer in the presence of between about 0.05 and about 0.3 wt.% of a free radical initiator selected from the group consisting of tert-amylperoxy pivalate and 2,2-azobis(2-methylbutyronitrile) or a mixture thereof for a period of from about 5 to about 10 hours, at a temperature between about 60 and about 110 DEG C; (b) gradually adding the remaining VP monomer in C2 to C3 alcohol solution at reaction temperature after the addition of the VA monomer is complete; (c) raising the temperature of the resulting reaction mixture to between about 110 and about 150 DEG C; (d) continuing the polymerization reaction at said higher temperature in the presence of from about 0.11 to about 0.6 wt.%, based on total monomers, of 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-bis(tert-butylperoxy) hexane and (e) cooling the resulting reaction mixture and recovering a homogeneous VP/VA copolymer C2 to C3 alcohol solution containing less than 100 ppm of residual vinylpyrrolidone monomer or vinyl acetate residual monomer.
