Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title novel derivative having high ion-scavenging ability and humectant activity, useful for detergent builders and humectants by reaction at a specified pH level of a monohaloacetic acid (salt) with a chitosan derivative having a specific structural unit. Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an oily cosmetic giving excellent feeling to the skin and durable make-up, by using a liquid oil containing a specific amount of a specific alpha-monoglyceryl ether as an essential component. CONSTITUTION:(A) A liquid oil containing 60-100wt.% of a compound of formula (R is 12-24C, especially 16-20C methyl-branched saturated hydrocarbon group or unsaturated hydrocarbon group) is used as an essential component and is compounded preferably together with (B) a wax and/or (c) a pigment into an oily cosmetic such as (i) lipstick, (ii) lip cream or (iii) foundation. The amounts of the components A, B and C are 40-90wt.% of A, 5-20wt.% of B and 1-20wt.% of C for (i), 50-90wt.% of A and 5-20wt.% of B for (ii) and 20-80wt.% of A and 20-60wt.% of C for (iii). The cosmetic can be smoothly spread on the skin since the liquid oil is an isotropic liquid having low viscosity in the time of application. The pigment is resistant to falling off and the oily feeling lasts long because the liquid oil is converted to a liquid crystal phase having high viscosity by the moisture of skin and breath after application.
