    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a cosmetic free from the trouble with sweat and oil, etc., and giving a clear color tone, by using a composite alumina pigment having excellent water resistance, solvent resistance, oxidation resistance, light resistance and stability and obtained by including a pigment in porous alumina. CONSTITUTION:The objective cosmetic contains a composite alumina pigment having a particle diameter of 0.05-100mu and containing a pigment (preferably an acid dye) included in porous alumina. The porous alumina can be produced by (1) oxidizing Al (preferably an Al foil of 1-1,000mum thick) electrochemically in an electrolyte such as an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid at a constant voltage of 1-300V or a constant current density of 1-200mA/cm at 0-60 deg.C, to form an alumina layer having a number of uniform columnar pores having a diameter of 1mmu-1mu, (2) peeling the alumina layer from the Al foil and pulverizing the alumina, and (3) contacting the powder with a 0.5-25wt% solution of the pigment. Since the pigment in the cosmetic is included completely in the alumina, the irritation of the skin caused by the direct contact of the dye can be prevented, and the cosmetic has great color flexibility.
