Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound under mild condition in high yield by reacting a compound having double bond with an oxygencontaining gas in the presence of a transition metal compound and an metal compound. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy-containing compound of formula IV or alphahydroxycarbonyl compound of formula V or formula VI can be produced by reacting a compound having double bond, e.g. an olefin of formula II (R and R are H, alkyl or aryl; R and R are H, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, etc.) or an enolate of formula III (R and R are H, alkyl or aryl; R is H, alkyl, alkoxy, etc.; R to R are alkyl or aryl) with an oxygen-containing gas at 10-180 deg.C (preferably 30-150 deg.C) in the presence of a compound containing transition metal (preferably a compound containing Co, Mn or Fe) and a compound of formula I (R and R are H, OH, alkoxy, siloxy, alkyl, etc.; R and R are H, alkyl, aryl, silyl, etc.).

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject substance by reacting a styrene derivative with oxygen in the presence of a primary and/or secondary alcohol using a specific vanadium compound as a catalyst and preferably further in the presence of synthetic zeolite. CONSTITUTION:A compound (e.g. styrene) expressed by formula I (R is lower alkyl, aryl or H; R is alkyl, halogen or H) is reacted with oxygen in the presence of a >=2C primary and/or secondary alcohol(e.g. ethanol) at 40-90 deg.C using a compound expressed by formula II (R and R are lower alkyl, aryl or alkoxycarbonyl; R is lower alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, H, halogen, etc.; R R together may form a ring) as a catalyst to afford the subject substance (e.g. styrene oxide). The reaction is carried out in the presence of synthetic zeolite (preferably molecular sieve) to further enhance the yield of the objective substance.

CONSTITUTION:A silyl peroxide of formula V and/or a hydroxyl-containing compound of formula VI is produced by contacting a silane derivative of formu la III (R to R are H, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, etc.) (e.g. triethylsilane) and a chain olefin of formula IV (R to R are H, alkyl, alkenyl, carbamoyl, etc.) (e.g. 4-phenyl-1-butene) with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a cobalt complex of a beta-dicarbonyl compound of formula I (R , R , R and R are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, CF3, etc.; R and R are alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl) (e.g. the compound of formula II). The objective compound can be produced in high yield and safety by the above one-step process.

USE:Useful as a catalyst such as an oxidation catalyst for olefins, aromatic compounds or silane compounds wherein a hydrocarbon compound and/or a paraffinic hydrocarbon compound having a hydroxyl group can be prepared in an arbitrary ratio. PREPARATION:A compound of formula VI is reacted with a cobalt compound such as cobalt chloride to prepare a compound of formula VII among the compound of formula I.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound in high conversion by bringing an olefin based hydrocarbon compound into contact with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a cobalt complex of beta-dicarbonyl compound together with secondary alcohol. CONSTITUTION:An olefin based hydrocarbon compound is brought into contact with an oxygen-containing gas using a compound expressed by formula I [R , R , R and R are H, 1-10C alkyl or formula II (R is alkyl, alkoxy, halogen or CF3; n is 0-5); R and R are R, alkyl, aryl or halogen], e.g. bis(1- pentafluorophenyl-1,3-butanedionato)cobalt as a catalyst in the presence of a secondary alcohol, preferably at 20-100 deg.C for 1-20hr to provide the aimed compound. Even if a raw material compound has a functional group, the functional group is free from decomposition and constitutional ratio of both compounds in reaction product can be controlled by properly choosing reaction temperature, reaction time and amount of secondary alcohol used.

The Co complex used as the catalyst can be synthesized e.g. from CoCl2 and a diketone by desalting process.
