PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recommender system for recommending clustering of students into educational groups. SOLUTION: The recommender system 100 includes a processor for executing a series of programmable instructions for receiving a request to cluster a plurality of current students into at least two educational groups according to a plurality of constraints. The processor further accesses student data corresponding to a plurality of students, wherein the student data include attribute data corresponding to respective students of the plurality of students describing at least one attribute related to the student. The processor further clusters the plurality of current students into the selected number of clusters, and outputs the result of clustering to a user. The clustering is based at least on the sameness of the attribute data corresponding to the respective current students of the plurality of the current students and the plurality of constraints. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve printing at a high throughput on a print media substrate differing in substrate attribute. SOLUTION: A printing system 40 includes a plurality of marking engines 10 and the like so that a group of images of a common print job stream can be printed on plural types of print media different in medium attribute. An image to be printed on a medium selected as a medium for printing is identified on a medium selected by a processor 133 for processing the print job stream. A planner/scheduler 56 is in communication with the processor 133 for selecting a marking engine (e.g. 10) to print the identified image on the selected print medium. An actuator modifies an operating parameter of the marking engines to a set point. A processing component 58 sends information on the identified image to be printed to the marking engine for forming a complete image on the print medium. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing system with a horizontal highway and a single pass duplex. SOLUTION: A parallel printing system 10 includes a first IOT12 (printer or image output terminal apparatus), a second IOT14 and a sheet bypass section 24 around the second IOT and extending upward. The sheet bypass section includes a sheet transporting path bypassing over the second IOT. The sheet bypass section includes an output for merging the printed sheet from the first IOT with the printed sheet from the second IOT. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a small dispersion between a plurality of object sources from being perceived as a defect. SOLUTION: An object handling system 104 includes a plurality of object sources 132, etc., a plurality of object feed paths 114, a sensor module 112 and a controller 118. The respective objects provided by the object sources 132, etc. can be forwarded to the sensor module 112 through the object feed paths 114. The controller 108 supervises the operation features of the object sources 132, etc. by receiving information from the sensor module 112 indicating the sensed results of the features in regard to the objects fed to the sensor module 112. The controller 108 also adjusts the operation features of the object sources 132, etc. depending on the situation, and compensates the difference or the incorrectness therein. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate a streak defect in an image formed by an image forming device. SOLUTION: A compensation pattern including a plurality of gray level portions and a plurality of fiducial marks is used. Each of the gray level portions 412 to 418 has a gray level different from the other gray level portions and extends along the cross-process direction, and are spaced form each other along the process direction 440 such that a gap is provided between each pair of adjacent gray level portions. The fiducial marks 430 are arranged before (431) and after (433) the plurality of gray level portions 412 to 418 along the process direction 440. The compensation pattern is used for determining a difference between an actual gray level and an intended gray level at a cross-process-direction image-forming device pixel location in the image.
