    Abstract: A radio wave absorber having a good radio wave absorption characteristic and high impact resistance is provided which is less susceptible to damages by chipping or the like during the manufacture or in use. The radio wave absorber unit includes two or more molded bodies in a pyramid or wedge shape whose radius at the tip end is from 0.5 mm to 7.5 mm and a base. A radius at the trough between adjacent molded bodies is 7.5 mm or less. A unit including molded bodies and the base is integrally formed from propylene-based conductive expanded beads. The bases of adjacent units are connected by fitting their recessed and raised portions to each other. The expanded bead size is in the range from 2 mm to 10 mm, and beads with two or more different bead diameters can be used. A hollow molded body can be formed by providing a hollow structure inside.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to expanded polypropylene resin beads which comprise, as a base resin, a random copolymer obtained by copolymerizing propylene and one, or two or more in admixture of comonomers selected from ethylene and alpha -olefins having four or more carbon atoms by use of a metallocene polymerization catalyst, wherein said base resin is mainly composed of an isotactic polypropylene resin having a melting point exceeding 140 DEG C and a melt flow rate of 12 g/10 minutes or below. As the base resin, there is preferably used, for example, a random copolymer of propylene and ethylene. In the invention, the expanded beads are filled in a mold, and heating the expanded beads with steam to cause expansion of the beads until the beads are mutually fused together thereby producing a molded article having a shape of the mold.

    Abstract: A shock-absorbing material composed of an expansion-molded article of polypropylene resin particles is excellent in shock-absorbing property and impact resilience compared with shock-absorbing materials composed of other resin materials, but has not been said to be satisfactory in stiffness and energy absorption efficiency. The present invention relates to a shock-absorbing material composed of an expansion-molded article produced by using foamed particles comprising, as a base resin, a polypropylene homopolymer obtained by using a metallocene polymerization catalyst. The base resin has a tensile modulus of at least 15,000 kgf/cm , and the expansion-molded article has a crystal structure that an inherent peak a and a high-temperature peak b appear as endothermic peaks on a DSC curve obtained by the differential scanning calorimetry of the molded article. The high-temperature peak b is a peak appeared on the temperature side higher than a temperature corresponding to the inherent peak a, and the quantity of heat at the high-temperature peak is at least 25 J/g.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for continuously producing an expansion-molded article, comprising feeding foamed particles between a belt continuously traveling along the upper surface within a passageway defined by structural members and having a rectangular form in section and a belt continuously traveling along the lower surface within the passageway, and then causing the foamed particles to successively pass through a super heated steam-feeding region and a cooling region within the passageway. The foamed particles used are foamed particles of a polyolefin resin, in which a recovery factor from compression defined by the equation (1): wherein V1 is the original bulk volume of the foamed particles, and V2 is a bulk volume of the foamed particles measured upon elapsed time of 10 seconds after the foamed particles are compressed to a bulk volume of 60% on the original bulk volume, and the compressive force is then removed, is at least 80%. The foamed particles are transferred to the super heated steam-feeding region after the foamed particles are compressed on the upstream side of the super heated steam-feeding region, and then released from a part or the whole of the compression. An apparatus for producing the expansion-molded article is also disclosed.
