Abstract: PURPOSE: A thermoelectric generator for vehicles is provided to increase back pressure without flow resistance of exhaust gas as a by-pass valve is removed. CONSTITUTION: A thermoelectric generator for vehicles comprises a high temperature part, a low temperature part, a plurality of thermoelectric modules, and a temperature control unit(140). The high temperature part comprises an exhaust pipe, a high temperature part casing, and a plurality of heat transfer pins. The high temperature part casing is installed on the outside of the exhaust pipe, and forms a path for vehicle-induced wind. The plurality of heat transfer pins delivers thermal energy to the high temperature part casing. The low temperature part has a larger diameter than the high temperature part casing, and is concentrically installed with the high temperature part casing. The inner surface of the thermoelectric module contacts the outer surface of the high temperature part casing. The outer surface of the thermoelectric module contacts the inner surface of the low temperature part. The temperature difference between the inner and outer surfaces causes to generate electricity. The temperature control unit is installed on the leading end of the high temperature part, and controls the temperature of the high temperature part so that the vehicle-induced wind flows in a wind path.

The low-temperature unit includes a first cooling water pipe holder(132), a heat transmission plate(134), and a second cooling water pipe holder. The heat transmission plate is extended from the first cooling water pipe holder and arranged in the outer sides of the-high temperature unit. The second cooling water pipe holder is formed in the other side of the heat transmission plate, thereby supporting the cooling water pipe. The thermoelectric modules are formed by welding a P-type semiconductor and an N-type semiconductor and interposed between the high-temperature unit and the low-temperature unit. The thermoelectric modules generate electricity by a thermoelectric phenomenon caused by a temperature difference of the high-temperature unit and the low-temperature unit.
