    Abstract: An electronic device with a display and a touch-sensitive surface displays, on the display, content and an affordance, wherein: the affordance is displayed over a portion of the content; a value of a display property of the affordance is determined based a value of the same display property of the portion of the content over which the affordance is displayed; and the value of the display property of the content is permitted to vary within a first range of values, and the value of the display property of the affordance is constrained to vary within a second range of values that is smaller than the first range of values; while displaying the content and the affordance, the device detects a change in appearance of the content over which the affordance is displayed; and in response to detecting the change in appearance of the content over which the affordance is displayed, the device changes the appearance of the affordance, including: in accordance with a determination that the value of the display property of the content has decreased, increasing the value of the display property of the affordance in accordance with a magnitude of a change in the value of the display property of the content and the second range of values; and in accordance with a determination that the value of the display property of the content has increased, decreasing the value of the display property of the affordance in accordance with a magnitude of the change in the value of the display property of the content and the second range of values.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are single-finger gestures for activating a trackpad mode on a touch sensitive device with no force sensors. An example method includes: displaying a virtual keyboard on a touch-sensitive display with a spacebar key and other keys. Detecting a first extended contact over the virtual keyboard and, in accordance with a determination that the first extended contact is over any of the respective displayed representations of the other keys, interpreting the first extended contact as a keyboard input and activating a corresponding extended keyboard function. The method also includes: detecting a second extended contact over the virtual keyboard. The method further includes: in accordance with a determination that the second extended contact is over a respective displayed representation of the spacebar key, interpreting the second extended contact as a mode-switching input that causes the electronic device to operate at least a portion of the touch-sensitive display as a trackpad.

    Abstract: An electronic device displays a first application and a second application along an edge of the display and, while concurrently displaying the first and second applications, detects an edge-swipe gesture. In response, if the location corresponds to a location of a respective application on the display, the respective application is associated with standard edge-swipe gesture criteria, and the edge-swipe gesture meets the standard edge-swipe gesture criteria, the device performs a system operation that includes displaying a system user interface at a portion of the display previously occupied by at least a portion of the first application and at least a portion of the second application; if the location of the edge-swipe gesture corresponds to a location of the respective application, the respective application is associated with enhanced edge-swipe gesture criteria, and the edge-swipe gesture does not meet the enhanced edge-swipe gesture criteria, the device forgoes performing the system operation.
