Abstract: A visual display of an electronic device has a touch screen and also pivots in multiple degrees of freedom when depressed by a user's finger to generate input signals. Switches or sensors detect movement of the display 122 or a cover (134, fig 13) within a housing 124 in which they are constrained to float. Numerous embodiments are disclosed with different movement combinations and a range of mountings for the display e.g. on a gimbal (fig 12) and/or springs (figs 9-12). The device may be provided in numerous types of electronic device (e.g. handheld media player, phone, PDA etc) in which it is the primary or only input device, or as a stand alone device (e.g. remote control).
