    Abstract: The invention relates to the preparation of a modified titanium component (1) for Ziegler-Natta catalyst systems, in which first (1.1) in a first step (1.1.1) titanium tetrachloride is allowed to react with (1.1.2) an alkyl benzenecarboxylate to give a liquid, then (1.2) in a second step (1.2.1) the liquid resulting from (1.1) is reacted with (1.2.2) a magnesium alkoxide to give a solid, and finally (1.3) in a third step (1.2.1) titanium tetrachloride is reacted with (1.3.2) the solid resulting from (1.2) and optionally additionally (1.3.3) further alkyl benzenecarboxylate to give the titanium component (1) (= solid), characterised in that, in the preparation of (1), the alkyl benzenecarboxylate used under (1.1.2) is a diester of phthalic acid with a certain primary, secondary or tertiary alkanol. The result is a modified titanium component which allows highly stereoregular and morphologically excellent polymers to be prepared.

    Abstract: The invention relates to the polymerisation of alpha -monoolefins by means of a catalyst system comprising (1) a titanium component, (2) an alkylaluminium compound and (3) a cocatalyst, characterised in that a novel, modified titanium component (1) is provided for this purpose; it is obtained by first (1.1) preparing a first intermediate from (1.1.1) titanium tetrachloride, (1.1.2) a modifier comprising (1.1.2.1) a titanic acid ester and (1.1.2.2) a phthaloyl dichloride, and (1.1.3) magnesium alcoholate, then (1.2) preparing a second intermediate from (1.2.1) titanium tetrachloride, (1.2.2) the intermediate from (1.1) and, if desired, (1.2.3) a phthaloyl dichloride as further modifier, and finally (1.3) preparing the titanium component (1) from (1.3.1) titanium tetrachloride and (1.3.2) the intermediate from (1.2).
