Abstract: PURPOSE:To remarkably improve an icing performance by forming a foam rubber layer provided at least on the surface side of a tread with a foam rubber including a specific quantity of low temperature softener relative to a rubber composition containing a polymer at a temperature not higher than glass transition temperature and obtaining a specific average diameter of air bubble within a range of a specific foaming rate. CONSTITUTION:A foam rubber layer 10 composed of a foam rubber 11 and having independent air bubbles 13 is provided between both shoulder parts on the surface 3a side of a tread 3. The foam rubber 11 is a single or a polymer of natural rubber, polyisopropylene rubber, polybutadiene rubber or the like of a glass transition temperature not higher than -60 deg.C. The foaming rate Vs of the foam rubber 11 is preferably within 5 to 50%, and the average bubble diameter of its independent air bubbles is preferably within 5 to 150mum. 2 to 20 parts by weight of low temperature softener relative to 100 parts by weight of rubber composition is contained in the foam rubber 11. As a result, the dynamic modulus of elasticity and the internal loss of the foam rubber are adjusted and thus, an ice frictional performance, that is, a braking characteristic, driving characteristics and a cornering characteristic can be improved.

CONSTITUTION:Tread rubber is made in a rubber compound of uneven structure embodied as in an ocean island consisting of a resin domain part and rubber matrix part. The resin domain part exerts reinforcing function for the rubber matrix part through the interactive effect either chemically or physically.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve processability and performance on ice by forming a specific percentage or more of the whole volume of a tread section of foaming rubber composition in which a specific rubber ingredient is mixed and also specifying the foaming rate of the foaming rubber composition and the average diameter of independent bubbles contained therein. CONSTITUTION:A pneumatic tire is provided with a tire case, the tread section covering between both shoulders of the crown section of the case, and side walls covering both external sides of the case. In this case, 10% or more of the whole volume of the tread section is formed of foaming rubber composition mixed with rubber ingredient comprising high trans-polybutadiene rubber 10-60 weight section whose 1.4-trans combined content is 70-90% and other diene rubber 90-4 weight section. The forming rate of foaming rubber composition is set in the range of 1-100%, and independent bubbles whose average diameter is 1-120mum are made to be contained in the foaming composition.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To greatly improve the driving properties, braking properties and steerability on iced roads without detriment to the braking performance on wetted roads, by providing a reinforcing rubber layer having a sea/island structure on the treated part of a pneumatic tire. CONSTITUTION:This pneumatic tire has such as structure that the following reinforcing rubber layer 10 having a volume of least 10% of the total volume of a tread is provided on the surface side of a tread 3. Namely, the rubber layer 10 is formed from a sea rubber part 11 and many island parts 12 scattered in the sea rubber part 11. The sea rubber part is composed of 100pts.wt. rubber component having a glass transition point of not higher than -50 deg.C and not less than 40pts.wt. carbon black. The island rubber part consists of powdered vulcanized rubber having an average particle size of not larger than 1,000mum, which is composed of 100pts.wt. rubber component having a glass transition point of not higher than -50 deg.C and not more than 30pts.wt. carbon black. The amount of said vulcanized rubber to be blended is not less than 5pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. rubber component of the sea rubber part.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an expanded rubber compsn. having excellent wear resistance, modulus, low-temperature wet frictional resistance and resistance to slip on ice, by providing randomly a fibrous material having a specified average length around the closed cells of a rubber blend. CONSTITUTION:An expanded rubber compsn. has such a structure that a fibrous material having an average length of 10-5,000mu which is 10-1,000 times as large as the average diameter thereof is randomly provided around closed cells. A raw rubber to be used is selected according to the use of the expanded rubber compsn. Examples thereof are natural rubber, polyisobutylene rubber, polybutadiene rubber, polybutyl rubber, etc. The fibrous material may be fibrous, rod-like or needle-like inorg. or or. materials. Examples thereof are those obtd. by cutting arom. polyamides, polyesters, rayon, etc. or inorg. fiber such as silicon carbide whisker, carbon, metal, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent blooming of sulfur in a processing of a compounded rubber, by adding and mixing specific two-layerd granules consisting of insoluble sulfur chemically treated with alpha-methylstyrene and a rubber processing oil. CONSTITUTION:A rubber compsn. is comprised of 0.2-10pts.wt. two-layered granules consisting of insoluble sulfur chemically treated with alpha-methylstyrene and a rubber processing oil and whose rubber processing oil content in an inner layer is higher than that in an outer layer and 100pts.wt. rubber. The granules of insoluble sulfur to be used can be prepd., for example, by the following method. An oil whose content is larger than the oil content in the granules as the final product is added to a powdery insoluble sulfur containing alpha- methylstyrene and the mixture is mixed in the first stage by means of a mixer until granules are obtained. Another part of powdery insoluble sulfur containing alpha-methylstyrene is then added thereto and the second stage of mixing is carried out to adjust the oil content to a specified level of the final product, thus obtaining granules.

The monomaleimide compound is e.g. N-phenylmaleimide, N-(alpha-naphthyl)maleimide, N-(biphenyl-2-yl) maleimide, N-(2-fluorenyl)maleimide, etc.
