Abstract: Procedimiento para fabricar un artículo óptico revestido libre de líneas de afinado visibles, que comprende: (i) proporcionar un artículo óptico que presenta por lo menos una cara principal geométricamente definida afinada, pero sin pulir; (ii) proporcionar una parte de molde con una superficie interna y una superficie externa; (iii) depositar sobre dicha cara principal de dicho artículo óptico o sobre la superficie interna de la parte de molde una cantidad requerida de una composición de revestimiento curable líquida; (iv) mover el artículo óptico y la parte de molde relativamente uno con relación a otra para que la composición de revestimiento entre en contacto con la cara principal del artículo óptico o para que entre en contacto con la cara interna de la parte de molde; (v) aplicar presión a la parte de molde para extender la composición de revestimiento curable líquida sobre dicha cara principal y formar una capa de composición de revestimiento líquida uniforme sobre la cara principal; (vi) curar la capa de composición de revestimiento líquida; (vii) retirar la parte de molde; y (viii) recuperar el artículo óptico revestido libre de líneas de afinado visibles.

Abstract: The invention concerns a process for making a coated optical lens blank free of visible fining lines which comprises: (ix) providing an optical article having at least one fined but unpolished geometrically defined main face; (x) providing a mold part having an internal and external surface; (xi) depositing on said main face of said optical article or on the internal surface of the mold part a requisit amount of a liquid curable coating composition; (xii) moving relatively to each other the optical article and the mold part to either bring the coating composition into contact with the main face of the optical article or into contact with the internal face of the mold part; (xiii) applying pressure to the mold part to spread the liquid curable coating composition on said main face and form a uniform liquid coating composition layer onto the main face; (xiv) curing the liquid coating composition layer; (xv) withdrawing the mold part; and recovering the free of visible fining lines coated optical article.

Abstract: A method wherein (a) a polymerisable composition (8) consisting of transparent organic glass is fed into a mould; (b) the composition is polymerised under such conditions that the resulting transparent organic glass substrate has at least one thin surface layer (10) polymerised with a degree of completion and/or cross-linking that is substantially lower than in the rest (9) of the substrate; and optionally (c) subjecting the substrate to thermal stress relief annealing. The method is useful for producing finished or semi-finished ophthalmic articles, particularly photochromic ophthalmic articles.
