Abstract:
A method wherein (a) a polymerisable composition (8) consisting of transparent organic glass is fed into a mould; (b) the composition is polymerised under such conditions that the resulting transparent organic glass substrate has at least one thin surface layer (10) polymerised with a degree of completion and/or cross-linking that is substantially lower than in the rest (9) of the substrate; and optionally (c) subjecting the substrate to thermal stress relief annealing. The method is useful for producing finished or semi-finished ophthalmic articles, particularly photochromic ophthalmic articles.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The invention relates to methods for obtaining the photochromic latex comprising the polymerization in aqueous emulsion of an initial polymerizable mixture, comprising one or more monomers polymerizable by free-radical mechanism and one or more photochromic compounds and the addition to the initial polymerizable mixture, during the polymerization of the initial polymerizable mixture or to the final latex of at least one agent for stabilizing the photochromic properties. Such latexes can be used in the production of photochromic films. Such films may be used, for example, on optical lenses.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method for preparing a photochromic latex, photochromic thin films obtained therefrom, and articles coated with such thin films, in particular photochromic ophthalmic lenses.

Abstract:
The method of the invention comprises: a) forming a hydrophilic polyurethane prepolymer with isocyanate end groups, by the polyaddition reaction of at least one polyol and at least one diisocyanate in the presence of at least one internal emulsifying agent; b) mixing the polyurethane prepolymer with a photochromic agent; c) adding water or a mixture of water and solvent, under agitation, to the mixture of the polyurethane prepolymer and the photochromic agent, to form an emulsion; and d) adding at least one chain extension agent to the emulsion and performing a chain extension reaction to give the final photochromic polyurethane latex. Application to the production of ophthalmic articles having photochromic properties.
Abstract:
The surface of an ophthalmic lens is polished by applying a layer of resin with a surface roughness 30-800 Ra A process for finishing the surface of a prescribed ophthalmic lens by applying a surface layer of resin of thickness 30 to 800 Ra, where Ra = the arithmetical average surface roughness, to confer a polished surface. An Independent claim is included for equipment to provide the surface finish comprising a resin applicator, which comprises a support (1001) in which the lens can be place and rotated and an arm (1003) carrying a nozzle (1002) which provides resin at a low pressure and can be moved vertically and horizontally with respect to the support (1001)
