    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a new dialkoxyphenylenediamine derivative, capable of providing color development of a practically sufficient intensity just after color developing operation and a color developed part having strong absorption within a wide range of a visible to a near infrared regions, and having high stability. CONSTITUTION:The dialkoxyphenylenediamine derivative of formula I (R to.R are l-4C alkyl; R is H or l-4C alkyl). This compound can readily be synthesized by subjecting a dihydric phenol of formula II and p-phenylenediamine or alkoxyanilines of formula IV (R is alkyl) and hydroquinone to dehydrating condensation and then alkylating the resultant compound of formula III or IV. Furthermore, since this compound has the effects and stability such as light and moisture resistance, it is useful for reading information with apparatuses at all the wavelengths such as bar code readers capable of carrying out the reading in a near infrared region and utilizing semiconductor laser or apparatuses performing the reading in a visible region.

CONSTITUTION:Dyestuff having very strong absorption power and solidness in the range from visible ray region to near-infrared ray region can be prepared by including therein a compound represented by a formula I (A: monovalent aromatic group; B and X: bivalent aromatic groups, independent of each other; Y: -O-, -NH-, or -N lower arkyl-; R and R : hydrogen atoms, lower alkyl groups, aryl groups or aralkyl groups, independent of each other; R : alkyl groups, aryl groups or aralkyl groups), quinoid type electron accepting compound, and aromatic carboxylic acid, and by bringing these materials into contact with one another. Consequently, a color-forming recording material which can be read out by semiconductor laser can be obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject substances by methylating a 1-lower alkylnaphthalene using a layer compound in which activated clay or exchangeable cations are exchanged with protons, ions such as Al or polynuclear hydroxide ions such as Al or Zr as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A 1-lower alkylnaphthalene (e.g. 1-methylnaphthalene or 1- ethylnaphthalene) is reacted with a methylating agent composed of hexamethylbenzene or pentamethylbenzene using activated clay or an ion exchange type layer compound as a catalyst to produce the subject substances. A layer compound (e.g. montmorillonite or saponite) exchanged with protons, ions such as Al, Fe, Ga or Ti or polynuclear hydroxide ions such as Al, Zr, Fe or Cr is used as the ion exchange type layer compound. The amount of the catalyst used is 0.01-60 pts. wt. based on 100 pts.wt. raw material and the reaction temperature is 80-280 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the title substance in good yield by isomerizing a mixed alkylnaphthalene, enhancing the concentration of a 1,5-dialkyl(R )-3,7-dralkyl(R ) naphthalene and dealkylating the groups (R ) of the resultant compound. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by the formula (R is methyl or ethyl; R is isopropyl, sec.-butyl or tert.-butyl) is isomerized and the alkyl groups (R ) are then subjected to dealkylation to produce the title substance. The reaction temperature is 50-300 deg.C in the case of the liquid phase and 200-400 deg.C in the case of the vapor phase. The compound expressed by the formula is produced by reacting dimethylnaphthalene, diethylnaphthalene or methylethylnahthalene with an alkylating agent such as isopropanol, propylene or isobutene in the presence of a compound oxide such as silica alumina, a solid superstrong acid containing sulfuric acid radicals on iron oxide, a liquid superstrong acid such as HF/BF3, a metallic ion exchanger of zeolites, activated clay, etc., as a catalyst. The above-mentioned catalyst is also used for isomerization/alkylation.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a mono secondary alkyl aromatic compound in high conversion and high selectivity by transalkylating an aromatic compound with a polyalkylbenzene having four or more substituents including one or more bulky secondary alkyl groups as an alkylating agent. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic compound (e.g. 2-methylnaphthalene) is transalkylated with a compound of the formula (R is 3-5C secondary alkyl; R is 1-5C primary alkyl; n+m>=4) (e.g. isopropylpentamethylbenzene) as an alkylating agent to provide a mono secondary alkyl aromatic compound (e.g. moniosopropyl-2-methylnaphthalene). The mole ratio of the aromatic compound/ alkylating agent is preferably 0.1-3 and the reaction is performed in the presence of a catalyst (protonic acid or Lewis acid) at -40 to 150 deg.C for 10min to 8 hours.
