Abstract: Un método para fabricar un material de envase biodegradable, que comprende la extrusión en un sustrato fibroso de una o más capas de revestimiento de polímero que incluyen al menos una capa de una mezcla de polímero formada por (i) 20-95 % en peso de polilactida (PLA) que tiene un índice de fusión elevado de más de 35 g/10 min (210 ºC; 2,16 kg), (ii) 5-80 % en peso de polibutileno sucinato (PBS) o un derivado biodegradable del mismo, y (iii) 0,5 % en peso de uno o más aditivos poliméricos, siendo los componentes de la mezcla fundidos y mezclados en combinación con la etapa de extrusión, con lo que los componentes de la mezcla de polímero son mezclados como gránulos y fundidos en una única etapa, seguida inmediatamente de la extrusión del material fundido en el sustrato fibroso.

Abstract: The invention relates to methods for lowering the melt viscosity and thereby improving heat-sealability of a polyester. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a heat-sealed container or package from fibrous- based, polyester-coated packaging material, and a method for heat-sealing polyester. The solution according to the invention is subjecting polyester to electron beam (EB) radiation. The lowered melt viscosity allows a lower heat- sealing temperature, and permits sealing of polyester to an uncoated fibrous surface. The preferred polyester for the invention is polylactide, as such or as blended with another polyester.
