    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the titled yarn having a high strength, a high elastic modulus and excellent flexural abrasion resistance and useful for producing ropes, hoses, fishing nets, etc., comprising filaments having a melting point, a tensile strength and a tensile modulus of higher than specific respective levels and also having a flexural abrasion strength of higher than a specific level. CONSTITUTION:The objective yarn comprises filaments having a melting point of >=160 deg.C, a tensile strength of >=15kg/d, preferably >=20g/d and a tensile modulus of >=300g/d, preferably >=350g/d and also having a flexural abrasion strength of >=2,000, preferably >=3,500. The yarn is preferably composed essentially of PVA.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily produce the titled fiber having mechanical strength and elastic modulus comparable to those of Kevlar, by dissolving a polyvinyl alcohol polymer having ultra-high polymerization degree in a glycol-type solvent and carrying out dry-wet spinning of the obtained spinning dope under specific condition. CONSTITUTION:A polyvinyl alcohol polymer having a polymerization degree of >=5,000, preferably >=7,000 is dissolved in a glycol-type solvent to obtain a spinning dope. The dope is maintained at 150-240 deg.C and subjected to dry-wet spinning into a coagulation bath composed of a solvent miscible with the above glycol-type solvent under a spinning draft of 0.05-1.0, preferably 0.07-0.75 to obtain an undrawn yarn. The objective fiber is produced by drawing the undrawn yarn e.g. with a roller so as to attain a strength of >=18g/d and an elastic modulus of >=350g/d and winding with a winder, etc.

CONSTITUTION:Polymer in a polyvynyl alcohol family, the degree of polymerization of which is 2,000 or more is used as the carcass member of a belted bias tire, besides, such fibers in a polyvinyl alcohol family are twisted together, as having tensile strength of 15g/d or more the initial modules of elasticity of 250g/d, or more, the fineness of a single yearn of 0.5 to 5 denier, and having no long period image observed in a X-ray small angular scattering measurement, Then adhesive for bonding rubber is applied to said fibers which shall be and heat-treated in a stretched condition to form a tire cord so as to be used as the carcass member of the belted bias tire. Various properties such as control stability, reduction in fuel consumption, and durability can be improved by this constitution.
