There is described a method of combating antagonism between a first component, namely a cold flow improver, and a second component, namely a drag reducing agent, in a liquid fuel composition, the antagonism being a reduction in the low temperature benefit achieved by the first component, by including in the fuel composition a third component, namely a compound selected from: a copolymer of one or more alkenes and sulphur dioxide; a copolymer of one or more alkenes with acrylonitrile; a copolymer of alkyl vinyl monomers and cationic monomers; a conductivity improver; and mixtures thereof. Related compositions and uses are also described.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an asphaltene stabilisation and anti-coking additive containing condensed cresol alkyl amine, a surfactant and a hydrogen donor compound. Optionally, the additive contains condensed sulphonic alkylphenyl acids. Preferably, said additives are synthesised from refinery streams without any pre-treatment and they do not require separation and concentration steps after each reaction. The invention also relates to the process used to produce the condensed cresol alkyl amine.

Disclosed is a fuel and/or crude oil additive comprising at least one ferric or ferrous formate and at least one solvent, dispersant, stabiliser, anti-caking agent and/or other auxiliary agent known in the art and optionally in addition thereto one or more additional organic or inorganic metal compounds. Said ferric or ferrous formate is suitably present in said additive in an amount of between 0.5 and 99.5% by weight.

The operation of marine diesel engines is improved through use of a defined fuel composition, containing one or more additives comprising a methal detergent, a non-metal detergent or both. The fuel is supplied to Diesel engines which operate in a maximum speed range of 1000 rpm (4-stroke engine) respectively 2500 rpm (2-stroke engine). The power output is greater than 200 bph. The cylinder bore is greater than 100 mm (2-stroke engine) while the piston stroke shall be greater than 150 mm (4-stroke engine) respectively greater than 120 mm (2-stroke engine). The metal containing detergent is a neutral calcium sulfonate, salicylate or calcium phenate. The non-metal containing detergent is a hydrocarbyl succinimide.
