Abstract:
The invention provides Ehrlichia canis antigens that can be used to detect E. canis infected animals regardless of whether the animals have been vaccinated for E. canis. The invention also provides compositions and methods for determining the presence of E. canis antigens and antibodies.
Abstract:
A device, kit and method for detecting the presence or absence of hookworm antigens. The device, kit and method of the present invention may be used to confirm the presence or absence of hookworm in a fecal sample that may be infected with one or more of roundworm, whipworm, tapeworm and heartworm, and whether or not hookworm ova are present in the sample. Further, the device, kit and method of the present invention may be used to confirm the presence or absence of hookworm in a fecal sample excreted by a canine animal as early as nine days after the animal first becomes infected with hookworm.
Abstract:
An apparatus, device, and method for laterally moving or assisting in the lateral movement of at least one of a liquid sample and a reagent along a porous carrier matrix is disclosed. The method comprises contacting the matrix with the at least one of the sample and the reagent and exposing the at least one of a liquid sample and a reagent to a centrifugal force, thereby moving or assisting in the lateral movement of the at least one of a liquid sample and a reagent along the porous carrier matrix.
Abstract:
A method for determining the presence or amount of a gadolinium chelate in a biological sample. The method includes contacting a biological sample with a dye selected from arsenazo III or chlorophosphonazo at low pH, and measuring the absorbance of the sample, thereby determining the presence or amount of gadolinium in the sample. A method for determining glomerular filtration (GFR) rate in a mammal. The method includes administering to the mammal an amount of a gadolinium chelate and determining the concentration levels of the chelate in biological samples taken from the animal at plurality of intervals following administration of the chelate. The concentration levels of the chelate are correlated to GFR.
Abstract:
A spinnable rotor for. a high speed centrifuge includes a housing which defines a chamber interiorly thereof for receiving a whole blood sample and for containing a predetermined amount of red blood cell absorbent gel. The housing includes an upper portion and a bottom portion, the upper portion having a port formed through the thickness thereof. The upper portion has at least a portion thereof formed from a light transmissible material. A light pipe is joined to the upper portion and light transmissively communicates with the light transmissive portion of the upper portion. The light pipe extends at least partially into the chamber and has an open, lower free end. When whole blood filling the rotor chamber contacts the lower free end of the light pipe, the red color of the blood is transmissively communicated to the upper portion of the rotor housing where it is viewable by the user of the centrifuge.
Abstract:
A retaining clip for retaining reagent test slides in a stacked arrangement is formed as a unitary member and has first, second and third plates, each having an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface of the first plate pivots towards the inner surface of the second plate, and the inner surface of the third plate also pivots such that the inner surfaces of the first and third plates at least partially face each other upon pivoting. The inner surfaces of the first and third plates are separated by a distance to accommodate the reagent test slides in a stacked arrangement. Alternatively, the third and second plates can be fixed rigidly to each other with only the first plate pivoting to at least partially face the third plate upon pivoting.
Abstract:
The invention provides compositions and methods for the detection and quantification of PRRSV antibodies and antibody fragments using polypeptides.
Abstract:
The invention provides canine CD20 nucleotide and protein sequences. These compositions are useful in the diagnosis and treatment of, e.g., CD20+ B-cell lymphoma, immune-mediated hemolytic anemia, immune-mediated thrombocytopenia, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in canines and felines.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides for devices for obtaining a sample from inside a body. According to one embodiment, the device includes a tubular body portion (102) defining a chamber (104) for receiving a sample of material therein; a plunger assembly operatively associated with the tubular body portion, the plunger assembly having a stopper (124) slidably disposed within the chamber of the body portion; and feedback elements (140) provided on the tubular body and/or the plunger assembly for providing a user of the sampling device with audible and/or tactile indications regarding an amount of displacement of the plunger assembly relative to the body portion. The stopper is adapted for fluid tight engagement with the body portion. A cutting element (130) is also provided to facilitate sample removal.
Abstract:
A method and device for determining whether an animal is infected with West Nile Virus (WN-V), or is either not infected or vaccinated with a WNV vaccine. The method includes contacting a biological sample from the subject with a first WNV polypeptide that is not an element of the WNV vaccine, and detecting whether antibodies in the sample bind to the WNV polypeptide. If the antibodies in the sample bind to the WNV polypeptide, it can be determined that the animal is naturally infected with WNV and if the antibodies do not bind to the polypeptide, it can be determined that the animal is either vaccinated or not infected.
