Abstract: PURPOSE: A device for damping a shock wave noise of a muffler is provided to damp an exhaust noise of the muffler and enable noiseless traveling of a vehicle, by elastically supporting a stopper and a shock-absorbing plate to a spring at the rear end of an inlet pipe of a case of the muffler. CONSTITUTION: An inlet pipe(10) in which exhaust gas flows is extended to an end plate(5) of a case(1) of a muffler and a hollow stopper(12) is movably formed to the rear end of the inlet pipe. A first spring(13) is interposed between the stopper and the end plate, and the stopper absorbs shock waves by the pressure of exhaust gas while defeating the elastic force of the first spring and moving when exhaust gas flows into the inlet pipe. Plural flow holes(11), to make exhaust gas flow into the inside of the case when the stopper moves, are formed to the side wall surface of the inlet pipe.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A half-active muffler for an internal combustion engine is provided to obtain uniform contact-noise reducing effect regardless of the term of use even without a shock absorber. CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas outputting from an engine flows into first and second chambers via an inlet pipe. If the pressure of the exhaust gas is low, simply the exhaust gas flowing into the first chamber flows into a third chamber via a third bypass valve due to closed valve seat. Herein, the second chamber performs as a resonator and reduces low frequency noises of low speed area. If the pressure of the exhaust gas rises, the exhaust gas in the second chamber flows into the third chamber via a second bypass valve with gradual opening of a valve while the exhaust gas in the first chamber flows into the third chamber via a first bypass valve.
