Abstract: 1384112 Fluorescent dyestuff/polymer compositions HOECHST AG 1 Feb 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 4672/72 Headings C3P and C3R A fluorescent pigment comprises an organic daylight fluorescent dyestuff and a colourless resin, which resin comprises a copolymer of one or more unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydrides and one or more vinyl and/or vinylidene compounds, which copolymer is crosslinked with a di- or polyhydric alcohol. The pigment may be prepared by (i) dissolving or dispersing the dyestuff in a solution containing a mixture of the uncrosslinked copolymer and the alcohol and then crosslinking the copolymer, (ii) dissolving or dispersing the dyestuff in a solution of the uncrosslinked copolymer, adding the alcohol and then crosslinking the copolymer or (iii) adding the dyestuff to a solution of the uncrosslinked copolymer in a form in which it is chemically bound to the alcohol and then crosslinking the copolymer. In the examples copolymers of methyl methacrylate, maleic anhydride, butyl methacrylate, styrene and vinyl acetate are mixed with various fluorescent dyestuffs and crosslinked with trimethylol propane. The pigments can be ground to a fine powder. The pigments are incorporated into polyvinyl chloride containing an organic tin stabilizer and hydroxy-stearic acid and into a non-drying alkyd resin, melamine resin and quartzite pearls.
