    Abstract: Se proporciona un metodo y aparato para suministrar a una unidad transmisora/receptora inalambrica (WTRU) con acceso a por lo menos un dispositivo periferico o por lo menos un dispositivo periferico asociado con un dispositivo auxiliar disponible. Se determinan los requerimientos del dispositivo periferico actual de la WTRU. Se explora el ambiente de radiofrecuencia (RF) de la WTRU para determinar si existe algun dispositivo periferico inalambrico disponible o dispositivos auxiliares inalambricos proximos a la WTRU. Tambien se realiza una determinacion respecto a si existe un dispositivo periferico cableado o un dispositivo auxiliar cableado disponible. Se compila una lista de dispositivos perifericos disponibles en ese momento explorando por lo menos un registro de dispositivo perifericos asociado con por lo menos un dispositivo auxiliar inalambrico y un dispositivo auxiliar cableado. La lista se presenta a la pantalla de la WTRU y un usuario selecciona por lo menos uno de los dispositivos perifericos disponibles de la lista.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for transfer of signals from multiple antennas down to baseband over a common radio frequency (RF) chain. Antenna selection having greater flexibility and applicability to both uplink and downlink is obtained by giving priority to the antenna receiving a better/best quality signal. Measurements are taken by at least a channel estimator during each time slot to determine the weighting to be given to the antenna with the better/best quality signal. Techniques and apparatus are provided to take measurements over a range of intervals from time slots to single symbols, for example, to select the best signal. The techniques described herein may be used individually, and in some cases are combined to receive additional benefits in efficiency. For example, one or more of recent and/or current channel estimation, history, optimization may be employed, in addition to channel estimation, to determine signal quality.

    Abstract: Se proporciona un metodo y aparato para control de recursos de radio en un sistema de comunicacion de multiplexado de division de frecuencia ortogonal (OFDM) de entrada multiple y salida multiple (MIMO). La metrica de canal se calcula para cada una de una pluralidad de antenas transmisoras. Se asignan subportadoras a cada antena transmisora de acuerdo con la metrica de canal de cada antena transmisora. Se transmiten las senales utilizando las subportadoras asignadas a cada antena. Se pude implementar adicionalmente modulacion y codificacion asi como control de potencia de transmision adaptables de cada subportadora de acuerdo con la metrica de canal. El control de potencia se puede implementar en base por antena o en base por subportadoras. Al realizar el control de potencia, se pueden seleccionar un subconjunto de antenas transmisoras y se puede aplicar la transferencia uniforme unicamente a las antenas seleccionadas. La transferencia uniforme se puede basar en SNR en vez de respuesta de canal.

    Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for implementing space frequency block coding (SFBC) in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication system. The present invention is applicable to both a closed loop mode and an open loop mode. In the closed loop mode, power loading and eigen-beamforming are performed based on channel state information (CSI). A channel coded data stream is multiplexed into two or more data streams. Power loading is performed based on the CSI on each of the multiplexed data streams. SFBC encoding is performed on the data streams for each of the paired subcarriers. Then, eigen-beamforming is performed based on the CSI to distribute eigenbeams to multiple transmit antennas. The power loading may be performed on two or more SFBC encoding blocks or on each eigenmodes. Additionally, the power loading may be performed across subcarriers or subcarrier groups for weak eigenmodes.

The modulated sub-carriers are each allocated to one or more transmit antennas for transmission. The adaptive modulation and coding function, the sub-carrier allocation function, and the power control function are jointly controlled to optimize throughput, signal quality, and system efficiency.

At least a portion of the nodes are provided with a smart antenna (204) configured to generate a plurality of directional beams (109a-109h). Each node maintains a list of other nodes and beam configuration information to be used in transmission of messages to other nodes. When a source node is required to transmit to a target node, the source node retrieves the beam configuration information and transmits with a directional beam (109) directed to the target node.
