    Abstract: Skupina uživatelských kanálu (402, 404, 411), které mají individuálne upravovaný zisk, je tvorena skupinou ortogonálních subkanálových kódu (W.sub.C.n., W.sub.S.n., W.sub.F.n.), které mají malý pocetPN cipu rozprostrení na ortogonální periodu vlny.Data pro prenos jedním z prenosových kanálu se kódují s nízkou rychlostí kódu a korekcí chyb a sekvencne opakují pred jejich modulací jedním ze subkanálových kódu, nastaví se jejich zisk a sectou se s daty modulovanými pomocí jiných subkanálových kódu. Výsledná sectená data prvního souctového toku(410) modulovaných symbolu a druhého souctového toku (420) modulovaných symbolu se modulují pomocí dlouhého kódu a pseudonáhodného kódu rozprostrení (PN kód) a konvertují se pro vysílání. Použití krátkých ortogonálních kódu zabezpecí snížení interferencí a soucasne umožní dostatecné vuci chybám odolné kódování a opakování, aby se díky casové diverzite prekonaly Raleighovy úniky, ke kterým pri pozemní komunikaci bežne dochází. Skupina subkanálových kódu muže obsahovat ctyri Walshovy kódy, z nichž každý je ortogonální ke zbývajícím kódum ze skupiny. Je výhodné použití ctyr subkanálu, protože umožnuje použití kratších ortogonálních kódu, i kdyžje prijatelné použití vetšího poctu kanálu a tudíž i delších kódu. Pilotní data se výhodne prenáší prvním prenosovým kanálem a data rízení výkonu se prenáší druhým prenosovým kanálem. Délka, nebo pocet cipu v každém kanálovém kódu muže být ruzná, aby se dále zmenšil pomer špicky a prumeru vysílacího výkonu pro vyšší prenosové rychlosti.

    Abstract: A set of individually gain adjusted subscriber channels (402, 404, 411, 415) are formed via the use of a set of orthogonal subchannel codes (Wc, Ws, Wf) having a small number of PN spreading chips per orthogonal waveform period. Data to be transmitted via one of the transmit channels is low code rate error correction encoded and sequence repeated before being modulated with one of the subchannel codes, gain adjusted, and summed with data modulated using the other subchannel codes. The resulting summed data (410, 420) is modulated using a user long code and a pseudorandom spreading code (PN code) and upconverted for transmission. The use of the short orthogonal codes provides interference suppression while still allowing extensive error correction coding and repetition for time diversity to overcome the Raleigh fading commonly experienced in terrestrial wireless systems. The set of sub-channel codes may comprise four Walsh codes, each orthogonal to the remaining codes of the set. The use of four sub-channels is preferred as it allows shorter orthogonal codes to be used, however, the use of a greater number of channels and therefore longer codes is acceptable. Preferably, pilot data is transmitted via a first one of the transmit channels and power control data transmitted via a second transmit channel. The length, or number of chips, in each channel code may be different to further reduce the peak-to-average transmit power for higher rate data transmission.

    Abstract: A novel and improved method for performing transmit power control is described. A signal is transmitted at a transmit power and includes a traffic channel transmitted at a traffic channel transmit power, and a pilot channel transmitting at a pilot channel transmit power. The receive energy of the pilot channel is measured, and compared with a threshold. A power control command is generated and transmitted to the system generating the signal. This determines whether the command is to be applied to either the traffic channel, the pilot channel, or the entire signal. The power of the determined channel(s) is adjusted accordingly.

    Abstract: In accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the invention, an apparatus, system, and method efficiently manage reverse link resources by allowing a mobile station to select between transmitting a payload a standard power level and transmitting a smaller payload at a boosted power level. The mobile station, therefore, can autonomously select a QoS (Quality of Service) level for physical layer packets. Based on reverse link transmission information received from a base station, the mobile station derives a reverse link transmission guideline defining the power levels and associated payloads for at least a standard service and boosted service. The mobile station selects a reverse link transmission power level from a plurality of power levels including at least a standard reverse link transmission power level associated with a standard payload size and a boosted reverse link transmission power level associated with a boosted payload size where the standard payload size is greater than the boosted payload size.
