Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title composition excellent in curability and giving cured products of outstanding high refractive index, low-water absorptivity and optical uniformity, comprising each specific liquid divinylbiphenyl isomer mixture, polythiol and radical polymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION:The objective curable composition suitable for optical materials, coating agents etc., comprising (A) a liquid divinylbiphenyl isomer mixture of formula I, (B) a polythiol of formula II (R is polyvalent organic group; n is >=2) (e.g. 9,10-anthracene dimethanethiol) and (C) 0.01-10mol%, based on the components A and B, of a radical polymerization initiator (e.g. 2,2- azobisisobutyronitrile), at the functional equivalent ratio A/B=0.01-1.0, and furthermore, if needed, (D) a filler such as glass fiber.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the high quality plastic lens with good yield, while the surface contamination or unevenness of a molding, the mold release in polymerization process and the occurrence of voids are prevented by thermally polymerizing the raw material-monomer under the atmosphere whose oxygen concentration is lower than that of normal atmosphere until the stage where said monomer is polymerized and its gelation is initiated. CONSTITUTION:Two matrixes with desired curved surfaces are fixed oppositely by using an annular gasket, or two matrixes are positioned oppositely and are fixed by winding a tape around these matrixes. The raw material monomer containing a radical polymerization initiator and other additives is poured into the cavity between two matrixes, and is thermally polymerized under the atmosphere whose oxygen concentration is lower than that of normal atmosphere until the stage where its gelation is initiated. Next, the annular gasket or the tape is removed from the matrixes, and the thermal polymerization is further advanced and finished in the oxygen concentration of the normal atmosphere. The annular gasket or the tape is generally used as the means for fastening the matrixes, but the tape is preferably used from the point of operability.
