Abstract:
A method for spectral interpretation in absorption spectroscopy uses a nonlinear spectral fitting algorithm for interpretation of spectral features in complex absorption spectra. The algorithm combines two spectral modeling techniques for generating spectral models to be used in the curve fitting process: a line-shape model and a basis-set model. The selected models for all gas components are additively combined using a least squares minimization, allowing for quantification of multiple species simultaneously.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for identifying faulted segment(s) in a multiphase power network may include receiving a current measurement that was measured during a fault, obtaining a set of equivalent sequence impedances for the segments, building a set of sequence bus impedance matrices, selecting a segment, calculating coefficients for the segment based on the set of equivalent sequence impedances for the segment and the sequence bus impedance matrices, calculating an estimated per unit fault distance for the segment based at least partially on the current measurement and the coefficients, identifying the segment as a potentially faulted segment if the estimated fault distance for the segment is between about zero and about one, and repeating for each of the segments the calculating coefficients, calculating an estimated per unit fault distance, and identifying as a potentially faulted segment if the estimated fault distance for the segment is between about zero and about one.
Abstract:
A system and method for configuring devices on a device network in communication with a router on a control network. An unconfigured device installed on the network receives a poll at a predetermined address from a router. The router receives a response to the poll from the unconfigured device, and requests identification of devices having a range of device object IDs and stores the MAC addresses of responding devices and the device object IDs. The unconfigured device is configured to have the proposed MAC address and device object ID.
Abstract:
The present invention comprises an apparatus and method for detecting a loss of oil from an oil-immersed transformer, based on fitting a transformer top-oil temperature model to online measurements in an iterative optimization process that yields fitted values for a first model parameter representing the top-oil temperature rise over ambient temperature and a second model parameter representing the oil time constant. Among the several advantages seen in the contemplated apparatus and method is the reduction in required instrumentation, whereby transformer oil leaks are indirectly detected without requiring pressure sensors or mechanical floats, although the presence of such sensors is not excluded by the teachings herein.
Abstract:
An example method for detecting and mitigating attacks on electric power substations comprises detecting a command to open or close a circuit breaker in the electric power substation. A modified extended substation model for the electric power substation is generated, based on the detected command and based on measurements in substation, where the modified extended substation model is a power flow model for the substation and for one or more directly connected neighboring substations. A power flow analysis is performed, using the modified extended substation model, to generate a predicted voltage for each of a plurality of nodes in the substation and in the one or more directly connected neighboring substations. Each predicted voltage is compared to a corresponding allowable voltage range, and execution of the command is blocked in response to determining that one or more of the voltages is outside the corresponding allowable voltage range.

Abstract:
When a fossil fuel well is producing fossil fuel, lift gas injected into the well to bring the naturally occurring fluids in the well to the surface along with the fossil fuel and the plunger if the well has a plunger. An instrument is programmed to use the predetermined criteria to dynamically control the rate of injection of the lift gas into the well.
Abstract:
One or more apparatuses are provided for forming a seal between a circuit breaker and an enclosure. An adjustable door assembly includes an inner floating frame assembly positioned according to a floating configuration between a first external flange and a second external flange that connect to an enclosure door of an enclosure housing a circuit breaker. The inner floating frame assembly includes an inner floating frame and an inner floating box frame. An adjustable coupling is used to apply a force, between the inner floating frame and the inner floating frame box, to the inner floating box frame towards a front side of the circuit breaker to form a seal between the front side of the circuit breaker and the enclosure door. The seal may provide a barrier for mitigating arc flash, hazardous gases, material, and/or explosive force from escaping from a backside of the circuit breaker.
Abstract:
A multi-phase power converter includes two or more multi-phase, bi-directional, multi-level, switching power converter subcircuits, connected in parallel at respective AC and DC sides, so as to provide a multi-channel, bi-directional, multi-level configuration. The AC sides of the switching converter subcircuits are directly coupled to one another and to a multi-phase AC input via series interface reactors, and the DC sides of the switching converter subcircuits are directly connected to one another and to a common split-capacitor bank at each level of the multi-level outputs of the switching converter subcircuits. A control circuit is configured to selectively control one or more switching semiconductor devices in each of the switching converter subcircuits. In some embodiments, the control circuit includes a closed-loop zero-sequence controller and a zero-sequence generator configured to eliminate circulating current among the switching converter subcircuits and to balance voltages across levels of the common split-capacitor bank.
Abstract:
A trip control circuit for a circuit breaker which provides for self-diagnostics includes a normally opened trip contact, a tripping circuit, and a signal light in series with the tripping circuit and the trip contact. The trip control circuit also includes a flasher circuit constructed and arranged to provide signaling of an abnormal condition of a circuit breaker to the signal light, while permitting the circuit breaker to trip provided that a cause of the abnormal condition signaled is not one which prevents tripping of the circuit breaker.
