    Abstract: A latch (10) has a housing (12) defining a mouth (14), a ratchet (18) pivotally mounted to cooperate with the mouth to move between a latched condition and an unlatched condition, a pivotally mounted pawl (30) engaging the ratchet (18) and rotatable to selectively engage the ratchet (18) to retain the ratchet (18) in the latched condition, and a release lever (40) pivotally mounted and pivotally connected to the pawl (30) for effecting movement of the pawl to disengage the ratchet. A shutter (50) is slidably mounted to move between a cover condition positioned to cover the ratchet (1 8) and an open condition allowing relative movement of a striker to latch and unlatch with the ratchet (18). The shutter (50) is biased to the cover condition.

    Abstract: A secondary release mechanism for a vehicle hood latch has a pivotally mount ed secondary latch (12) which is rotatable between a latching position and an unlatching position and biased towards the latching position. A pivotally mounted release arm (26) is rotatable between a retracted position, a deploy ed position and a releasing position and biased to the standby position. A pivotally mounted release lever (20) is rotatable between a release position , a standby position and a retract position . The release lever (20) has a cam surface (22) for engaging a hood of the vehicle as the hood moves between th e fully latched condition and a secondary latched condition responsively rotating the release lever (20) between the standby position and the retract position. The release lever (20) operably engages the secondary latch (12) a s the release lever (20) rotates from the standby position to the release position. The release arm (26) engages the release lever (20) wherein responsive movement of the release lever (20) between the standby position t o the retract position responsively effects movement of the release arm (26) between the deployed position and the retracted position and movement of the release arm (26) from the deployed position to the releasing position responsively effects movementof the release lever (20) rotating the secondar y latch (12) from the latching position to the unlatching position.

    Abstract: A latch assembly has a latch housing (12) having a mouth. A ratchet (11) is pivotally mounted within the housing (12) to cooperate with the mouth to piv ot between an open and a closed condition for receiving, engaging and cinching a striker (3). The ratchet (11) is biased to the open condition. A pivotally mounted pawl (13) engages the ratchet (11) and biased to a ratchet engaging position. A pawl lever (24) engages the pawl (13) for effecting releasing rotation thereof. An inside release assembly has an inside release lever (20 ) pivotally mounted to the housing and connected to an inside clutch lever (32 ) and an override lever (46). The inside clutch lever (32) is moveable to enga ge and disengage the pawl lever (24). Manipulation of the inside release lever (20) effects releasing movement of the pawl lever (24) when the inside clutc h lever (32) engages the pawl lever (24). An outside release assembly has an outside release lever (16) pivotally mounted to the housing (12) and connect ed to an outside clutch lever (30). The outside clutch lever (30) is moveable t o engage and disengage the pawl lever (24). Manipulation of the outside releas e lever (16) effects releasing movement of the pawl lever (24) when the outsid e clutch lever (30) engages the pawl lever. A first motor (54) operably engage s a first shaft (58) having a lock cam (66) mounted thereon. A second motor (5 6) operably engages a second rotatably mounted shaft (68) having a child lock c am (70) mounted thereon. The actuator housing (52) mates with the latch housing (12) such that the lock cam (66) is rotatable in the latch housing (12) to engage the inside and outside clutch lever (32, 30) and the override lever (46).

    Abstract: An article including a panel structure mountable in an automobile vehicle to form a part of the vehicle interior thereof, and a process for making the same are disclosed. According to this process, an outer layer defining at least a portion of the exposed exterior surface of the structure is prepared by applying a first composition containing a thermoplastic polyurethane and a heat-activated crosslinking agent onto a mold surface and thereafter drying the composition. Next, a second composition comprising (i) a poly(vinyl chloride) resin and at least one plasticizer and/or (ii) a thermoplastic polyurethane resin material is gelled onto an inner surface of the outer layer while on the outer layer is retained on the mold surface. The gelled composition is then fused to form an inner layer interfacially chemically bonded to the outer layer. The layered composite structure is united with the reinforcing substrate so that the reinforcing substrate serves to reinforce the outer layer. The exposed exterior surface of the panel structure simulates the appearance and feel of authentic leather, while the inner layer and an optional semi-rigid polyurethane cellular foam intermediate layer provide a compressing feel to the exposed portion.
