Abstract: A dishwasher is provided to prevent generation of odor due to contaminated washing water or sewage by installing drain passages for efficiently discharging the washing water and the sewage included in the washing water. A dishwasher comprises a sump, a sump housing(16), a drain pump combined to the sump housing to discharge sewage and washing water, and drain passages(161,162,163). The drain passages are installed in the sump housing to guide the washing water and the sewage toward the drain pump, also communicated with the drain pump to be inclined along the inner periphery of the sump housing. The sump housing, which constitutes the external appearance, consists of a pump motor loading unit for loading a pump motor driving a washing impeller pumping washing water, first and second drain passages, and a third drain passage communicated with the drain pump to connect the first and second drain passages.

Abstract: A dishwasher is provided to improve washing efficiency and reduce amount of washing water by minimizing inflow of air into the washing water when the washing water flowed into a sump is pumped by using an impeller. A dishwasher comprises a sump housing(16), an impeller, an impeller casing(24) having the impeller, a communication hole, and air inflow prevention ribs(22,23). The sump housing constitutes the exterior of a sump. The impeller installed at the upper part of the sump housing pumps out washing water. The communication hole, which is arranged at the impeller casing, guides the inflow of the washing water by the impeller. The air inflow prevention ribs arranged at the periphery of the communication hole prevents air from flowing when the washing water is pumped out.
