PURPOSE: An adaptive modulation/demodulation device applied to an MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) system having a layered space-time architecture detector and a method thereof are provided to determine an equivalent channel gain, and to determine the number of bits and transmission power to be transmitted through each antenna by using the equivalent channel gain, thereby improving system performance. CONSTITUTION: A bit and power assign information calculator(54) determines an equivalent channel gain in reverse order of a V-BLAST(Vertical-Bell Laboratories Space Time) system based on MIMO channel information fed back from a receiving end, and determines the number of bits and transmission power to be transmitted to each transmission antenna(53A-53M) by using the determined equivalent channel gain. A layered space-time architecture-based adaptive modulator(52) performs a modulation process in different methods by each antenna(53A-53M) with the use of the determined bits and the power assign information, controls the transmission power, and transmits an adaptively modulated signal through each transmission antenna(53A-53M).

PURPOSE: An apparatus for retrieving additional data based on digital data broadcasting and a method therefor are provided to easily offer information for which a user wishes on the basis of an additional data ID by systematically arranging data broadcasting information and transmitting arranged data broadcasting information. CONSTITUTION: A contents storing unit(111) stores additional data, and generates additional data information. A control unit(112) receives additional data information generated in the contents storing unit(111), generates meta data for encapsulation, and controls the contents storing unit(111) and a contents encapsulating unit(113). The contents encapsulating unit(113) encapsulates the additional data according to the meta data generated in the control unit(112). A remultiplexing/transmitting unit(114) remultiplexes the additional data encapsulated in the contents encapsulating unit(113), an audio/video transport stream and PSIP/SI(Program and System Information Protocol/Service Information), and transmits the remultiplexed data to a terminal.

PURPOSE: A device of inserting synchronized stream data for digital data broadcasting is provided to calculate insertion times for each DAU(Data Access Unit) configuring synchronized stream data, and to insert the DAUs into an MPEG-2 audio/video transport stream at the calculated insertion times, thereby smoothly reproducing the synchronized stream data in a receiver. CONSTITUTION: An additional data storage(440) stores, manages, and outputs additional data. A synchronized stream data selector/setter(410) selects a video/audio transport stream and multiplexed synchronized stream data, and sets parameter values for multiplexing the selected stream data and the video/audio transport stream. A synchronized stream data analyzer(430) periodically analyzes the selected stream data, and generates synchronized stream data-related information. A transport stream analyzer(450) periodically analyzes the video/audio transport stream, and generates video/audio transport stream-related information. A data group managing unit (120) classifies one or more of header information according to one or more data groups. The data group managing unit extracts download map information which corresponds to each of header information. A second decoder (130) analyzes a body of a multimedia object transmission (MOT) header which is included in the download map information. The second decoder extracts the expansion parameter of the MOT header and the download map information. PURPOSE: A transmission frame structure for DMB file casting and a transmission method using the same are provided to maximize utilization of an application such as navigation update and rich media service in a DMB environment. CONSTITUTION: Item identification information and detailed information are included by file piece unit in a DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting)-AF(Application Format) standard. The file piece is transmitted as one object. A receiver collects file pieces which are transmitted through item identification information of the file piece.

A transcoding apparatus and method according to usage history information and usage environment information are provided to store received contents in a home terminal, and then provide contents suitable for a sub-terminal with various usage environments to the corresponding sub-terminal according to usage history information and usage environment information. A transcoding apparatus includes an interface(201), a control/management unit(200), a content receiver(202), a content storage unit(203), and a transcoder(204). The interface receives usage history information and usage environment information from an external sub-terminal(101) and transmits transcoded contents to the sub-terminal. The control/management unit manages and analyzes the usage history information and the usage environment information and determines a transcoding parameter according to the management and analysis result. The contents receiver receives contents from an external device. The content storage unit stores and manages the received contents. The transcoder transcodes the contents stored in the content storage unit using the transcoding parameter and transmits the transcoded contents to the interface.
