    Abstract: PURPOSE:To stably obtain are electroviscous fluid responding to various prescribed properties such as a small current value and a great change in viscosity in applying a voltage thereto by mixing plural kinds of electroviscous fluids with dielectric particles different in electrical characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A electroviscous fluid is prepared by dispersing plural kinds of dielectric particles dispersed in an oily medium (e.g. transformer oil) excellent in electrical insulating properties. In the process, electroviscous fluids and/or dielectric particles having the maximum value (f0.max) and the minimum value (f0.min) in relaxation frequencies (f0) of an electroviscous fluid prepared by using one kind each of the plural dielectric particles alone satisfying the relationship of the formula are mixed. Specifically, the electroviscous fluid is prepared according to, e.g. a method for mutually mixing the plural kinds of electroviscous fluids or mixing the plural kinds of dielectric particles and then dispersing the mixed dielectric particles in the oily medium. Furthermore, the oily medium in the plural kinds of electroviscous fluids is preferably the same. Carbonaceous powder consisting essentially of carbon is preferred as the dielectric particles.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an electroviscous fluid having a high electroviscous effect, reduced in the precipitation of disperse phase, and excellent in long-term stability, temperature characteristics and a response to an applied electric field. CONSTITUTION:This electroviscous fluid is prepared by suspending a disperse phase comprising dielectric particles in a liquid phase comprising an oily medium consisting of a copolymer of 50-90mol% dimethylsiloxane with 10-50mol% 3,3,3- trifluoropropylmethylsiloxane and having a volume resistivity of 10 OMEGA.cm or above. Alternately, a disperse phase comprising dielectric particles is dispersed in a liquid phase comprising a mixture of the above copolymer with a dimethylsiloxane homopolymer and having a ratio of the number of the 3,3,3- trufluoropropylmethylsiloxane units to the total number of the 3,3,3- trifluoropropylmethylsiloxane units and the dimethylsiloxane units in the range of 0.1-0.5.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a shock absorber which uses the pressure of an electroviscous fluid to return a piston which has absorbed impact and moved. CONSTITUTION:A piston 16, which has absorbed impact and moved, is required to be returned to its initial position. So compressed air is supplied by a compressor 38 into a fluid reservoir 14 and the air pressure forces an electroviscous fluid 14 to flow inversely into a cylinder 12 through either a main pipe 26 connected to both the cylinder 12 and the fluid reservoir 24 or a bypass pipe 42. Since the piston 16 is returned to its initial position by the pressure of the electroviscous fluid 14, the need for providing a separate spring, etc., for returning the piston is eliminated. Also, the possibility of the piston 16 being returned more than needed by the elastic force of a spring is eliminated.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a phosphazene oil, composed of a mixture of specific phosphonitrile ring compounds, having a low vapor pressure, a high dielectric constant and chemically stabilized characteristics, excellent in flame retardancy and useful as electrical insulating oils, power transmission oils, vacuum, oils, mold release agents, etc. CONSTITUTION:A flame retardant oil which is a mixture of phosphonitrile ring compounds having a molecular structure expressed by the formula (n is 3-15; R1 and R2 are aromatic compound derivative). The content of the compounds in which the number (n) of P=N bond units in the aforementioned compounds is 1-90% mol fraction based on the above-mentioned mixture and the content of the compounds in which (n) is 7 is >=1% expressed in terms of mol fraction in the mixture.
