Abstract: A MULTIPLE ACCESS, SPREAD-SPECTRUM COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PROCESSES A PLURALITY OF INFORMATION SIGNALS RECEIVED BY A RADIO CARRIER STATION (RCS) OVER TELECOMMUNICATION LINES FOR SIMULTANEOUS TRANSMISSION OVER A RADIO FREQUENCY (RF) CHANNEL AS A CODE-DIVISION-MULTIPLEXED (CDM) SIGNAL TO A GROUP OF SUBSCRIBER UNITS (SUS). THE RCS RECEIVES A CALL REQUEST SIGNAL THAT CORRESPONDS TO A TELECOMMUNICATION LINE INFORMATION SIGNAL, AND A USER IDENTIFICATION SIGNAL THAT IDENTIFIES A USER TO RECEIVE THE CALL . THE RCS INCLUDES A PLURALITY OF CODE DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS (CDMA) MODEMS, ONE OF WHICH PROVIDES A GLOBAL PILOT CODE SIGNAL. THE MODEMS PROVIDE MESSAGE CODE SIGNAL SYNCHRONIZED TO THE GLOBAL PILOT SIGNAL. EACH MODEM COMBINES AN INFORMATION SIGNAL WITH A MESSAGE CODE SIGNAL TO PROVIDE A CDM PROCESSED SIGNAL. THE RCS INCLUDES A SYSTEM CHANNEL CONTROLLER COUPLED TO RECEIVE A REMOTE CALL. AN RF TRANSMITTER IS CONNECTED TO ALL OF THE MODEMS TO COMBINE THE CDM PROCESSED SIGNALS WITH THE GLOBAL PILOT CODE SIGNAL TO GENERATE A CDM SIGNAL. THE RF TRANSMITTER ALSO MODULATES A CARRIER SIGNAL WITH THE CDM SIGNAL AND TRANSMITS THE MODULATED CARRIER SIGNAL THROUGH AN RF COMMUNICATION CHANNEL TO THE SUS. EACH SU INCLUDES A CDMA MODEM WHICH IS ALSO SYNCHRONIZED TO THE GLOBAL PILOT SIGNAL. THE CDMA MODEM DESPREADS THE CDM SIGNAL AND PROVIDES A DESPREAD INFORMATION SIGNAL TO THE USER. THE SYSTEM INCLUDES A CLOSED LOOP POWER CONTROL METHOD FOR MAINTAINING A MINIMUM SYSTEM TRANSMIT POWER LEVEL FOR THE RCS AND THE SUS, AND SYSTEM CAPACITY MANAGEMENT FOR MAINTAINING A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ACTIVE SUS FOR IMPROVED SYSTEM PERFORMANCE.

Abstract: The invention provides a spread spectrum communication system for maintaining an initial transmit power level of a communication station during periods of inactivity. The system comprises a first station (501) and a second station (502), the initial transmit power level of which is maintained, wherein the first station generates an automatic power control signal by comparing a measured noise power level in a communication channel and an estimated system transmit power level and the second station occasionally transmits a spread spectrum signal whilst in an inactive state and receives the automatic power control signal to adjust an initial transmit power level thereof.

Abstract: Un módem CDMA incluye un transmisor módem que tiene: un generador de código que facilita una señal de código piloto asociada y que genera una pluralidad de señales código de mensaje; un circuito expansor que produce una señal de mensaje de espectro expandido mediante la combinación de cada una de las señales de información con una respectiva señal código de mensaje; y un generador de código de piloto global que facilita una señal código piloto global con la que se sincronizan las señales código de mensaje. El módem CDMA incluye también un receptor módem que tiene un generador de código de piloto asociado y un grupo de correladores de código de piloto asociados para correlar las versiones retardadas de código-fase de la señal piloto asociada con una señal CDM recibida para producir una señal piloto asociada desexpandida. La fase de código de la señal piloto asociada se cambia sensible a un valor de señal de adquisición hasta que se reciba una señal piloto. La lógica de seguimiento de códigopiloto de piloto asociado ajusta la señal código piloto asociada en fase sensible a la señal de adquisición de forma que se maximiza el nivel de potencia de señal de la señal código piloto asociada desexpandida. Finalmente, el receptor módem CDMA incluye un grupo de circuitos de adquisición de señal de mensaje, incluyendo cada uno de ellos una pluralidad de correladores de señal de mensaje recibidas que correlan la respectiva señal de código de mensaje recibida local con la señal CDM para producir una respectiva señal de mensaje recibida desexpandida.
