    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the titled substance useful as a monomer of a heat-resistant polymer, in high purity, by reacting an aliphatic maleamidic acid with a lower carboxilyc acid anhydride in an organic solvent in the presence of a stearic acid salt as a catalyst, and extracting the product with carbon tetrachloride, toluene, etc. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula (Q is n-valent organic group such as 2-400C alkyl, alkylene, etc.) is made to react with a stearic acid salt (e.g. nickel stearate) in an organic solvent (e.g. 1,4-dioxane) using a lower carboxylic acid anhydride (e.g. acetic anhydride) as a catalyst to convert the compound to maleimide. The produced aliphatic maleimide is selectively extracted from the reaction liquid by using carbon tetrachloride, toluene, xylene, etc. If necessary a tertiary amine may be added to the reaction system to suppress the side reactions. The reaction temperature is 50-140 deg.C, preferably 60-120 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain titled composition of high heat resistance, rapid curability and high adhesive potential, also having high mechanical strength and outstanding processability, by blending N-(alkenylphenyl) maleimide derivatives in a phenolic hydroxyl group-contg. resin. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition can be obtained by blending (A) an N-(alkenylphenyl) maleimide derivative, its dimer and/or its polymer[e.g., N- (o-vinylphenyl)maleimide]and (B) a phenolic hydroxyl group-contg. resin (e.g., phenolic resin). Moreover, for higher adhesive potential, it is recommended that (C) an amino compound (e.g., aniline) is subjected to preliminary reaction with the component (A) and the resulting product is used as a component.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a polyimide free from residual solvent, by reacting an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride with a polyamine using a ketone solvent in place of a conventional polar solvent. CONSTITUTION:A polyimide is prepared by reacting (A) an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride of formula I [Z is a difunctional organic group having C-C double bond, e.g. groups of formulas II, III, IV, or V, (R1-20 are H, 1-16C alkyl, halogen)], e.g. maleic anhydride, with (B) a polyamine having two or more amino groups in average, e.g. m-phenylenediamine, in (C) a ketone-based solvent, e.g. acetone. The preferable weight ratio of (C) to (B) is 2-40 to increase the yield and improve the qualities.
