Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare L-tryptophan at a low cost industrially, by reacting indole with alpha-acetamidoacrylic acid in the presence of acylase and a culture of specific microorganisms. CONSTITUTION:Microorganisms, e.g. Proteus vulgaris IFO3167, Escherichia coli IAM1268, or Aerobacter aerogenes IFO1268, which belong to the genus Proteus, Escherichia, Aerobacter, Klebsiella, or Bacillus, and have the ability to produce L-tryptophan from indole and alpha-acetamidoacrylic acid in the presence of acylase, are cultured in a nutrient medium. The resulting culture, live bacterium bodies collected therefrom, or treated bodies are reacted with alpha-acetamidoacrylic acid (A) in an aqueous solvent wherein acylase, indole, and A are dissolved or suspended.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a thermosetting resin having excellent heat resistance, electrical characteristics, wear resistance and chemical resistance, by mixing and reacting an aralkyl compd., a phenol compd. and an alkaline earth metal compd. CONSTITUTION:An aralkyl compd. (A) of the formula [wherein R is 1-6C alkyl, 2-6C acyl; (n) is 1, 2], a phenol compd. (B) and at least one member (C) selected from oxides, hydroxides and carbonates of alkaline earth metals, are mixed and reacted. Examples of the aralkyl compd. are alpha,alpha'-dimethoxy-p-xylene and alpha,alpha',alpha''- trimethoxymesitylene.

Abstract: PURPOSE:A resin resulting from the reaction between a specific aralkyl compound and phenol is made to react with an alkaline earth metal oxide or other compounds at high temperatures to produce the titled modified resin with high heat resistance, wearing resistance, chemical resistance and electrical properties. CONSTITUTION:An aralkyl compound of the formula (R is 1-6C alkyl, 2-6C acyl; n is 1,2), preferably alpha,alpha'-dimethoxy-p-xylene, is made to react with a phenol, preferably at a molar ratio of 1.3-3 at 70-200 deg.C. The resultant resin is mixed with an oxide or hydroxide and/or carbonate of an alkaline earth metal at a temperature higher than the softening point of the resin to effect the reaction, thus producing the objective resin.
