    Abstract: Disclosed is an improved process for preparing diesters of malonic acid by subjecting ketene, carbon monoxide and an ester of nitrous acid to a liquid phase reaction in an organic solvent, in which the reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst of a platinum group metal complex represented by the formula: L2MX2 wherein, L represents a ligand selected from the group consisting of triorganophosphines, triorganophosphite and triorganoarsines; M represents a platinum group metal; and X represents a halogen or an acetic acid ion.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a thermal energy storage material which allows thermal energy storage cycle to be operated stably over a long period of time and provides a relatively low-temperature heat source, by blending a dicarboxylic acid anhydride, an alcohol and a dicarboxilic acid monoester derived from said anhydride and said alcohol. CONSTITUTION:A thermal energy storage liquid compsn. contains a dicarboxylic acid anhydride, an alcohol and a dicarboxylic acid monoester derived form said anhydride and said alcohol. Particularly preferred dicarboxylic acid anhydrides are cyclohexane-dicarboxylic [2,3] anhydride, phthalic anhydride and anhydrides of their derivatives. The alcohols having a b.p. of 50-300 deg.C are preferred when easiness in the separation thereof by evaporation is taken into consideration. The thermal energy storage compsn. can be employed in chemical thermal energy storage by utilizing a method of separating at least part of the alcohol by said separating operation, while externally supplying heat.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain titled stable composition having a low viscosity at normal temperature and being uniformly coated when applied as a coating varnish, by polymerizing biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride with an armoatic diamine in a specified mixed solvent. CONSTITUTION:A mixed solvent is obtained by mixing (A) 100pts.wt. dioxane, with (B) 35-80pts.wt. dimethylformamide or N-methylpyrrolidone and (C) 0- 75pts.wt. lower alcohol, e.g., methyl alcohol. Next, this mixed solvent is mixed with both biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride and an aromatic diamine of the formula I or II, wherein R1 and R2 are each a substituent such as H or a lower alkyl, and A is a bivalent group wuch as -O- or -S-. The resulting mixture is polymerized at 100 deg.C or below for 0.5-30hr to obtain a polyamic acid solution containing 5-40pts.wt. polyamic acid containing at least 80% recurring units represented by formula III, wherein R is a bivalent aromatic residue derived by removing the amino groups from the aromatic diamine.
